that cage looks like it might play better with a more smaller chainrings. is it really going to happen? is shimano really going to go proper nerd crank?

If Trek screams loud enough, maybe.

too bad they still won't admit that 650b is an option outside of trail, enduro, etc bikes and tiny people xc.

it's an EXACT fit for a Wald 137 https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/carriers-racks/alloy-front-carrier-cantilever-boss-mounting-black-alloy/?geoc=US

pretty well made and a bit lighter than advertised, the mounting tang is thin but easily replaced

would be interesting if we could find it for even cheaper on aliexpress or something

It's a struggle, but you cut out his tongue, and his last words are "atmo atmo Atmo ATMO ATMOOOOOGORIHGGHRSHGGRLMGGMMGMgrrglegurglegrr....."

What makes it better than the $7 sunlite? Lighter, higher rear part, bigger footprint?

Tue, 09/05/2017 - 22:35
JUGE FREDD
JUGE FREDD's picture

the Sunlite has pivoting rivets connecting the right-angle brackets for the canti posts, where this is solid

the Sunlite has much less structural aluminum despite weighing at least 50% more

the extent of the footprint is much better for a basket, and it's EXACTLY aligned with the basket wire for a mating fit

the tall rear fence at the perfect height and angle for the basket is just gravy, and the predrilled holes are even located exactly for either bolts or a ziptie

between canti/vee brake arm and the brake bolt.

Unless you have paul or avid shorty ultimate brakes. In which case, don't.

The sunlite will catastrophically fail with a significant load on a bumpy road.

I know I've seen that form on eBay, but not sure if it was alloy or steel.

you saw one like the SJS without any riveted joints?

Yeah the welded construction caught my eye. Can't find on eBay at the moment though.

Minoura also makes a rack sort of similar to that, but I can't find one for sale anywhere right now.

From this dead ebay auction.

Gonna put this here too

On the topic of dropouts. This looks pretty good. Singlespeed or geared.

If someone on here did it, I'd probably like it. Since it was done by someone I don't know, they're a fucking idiot.

Trek has a team of engineers with advanced degrees, who know how to use Solidworks, and then a factory with another team of engineers who probably wouldn't let some bullshit go into production, so I assume it's solid. And if it's not, Trek has a lifetime warranty.

Hopefully its better than Soma's!

But really. I'm sure they are fine. I don't see a company as large as Trek pushing out something that has a large flaw.

I think that's the same dropout the short lived "singlefly" rigid 29er used. i know some not tiny dudes who thrashed on them for a few years now and it's a-ok

Yes, my buddy who had a Superfly race bike said his had the same dropouts. Big guy, no problems.

I'm on them too. They're rock solid. Once you tighten everything up it's very reassuring how much redundancy there is.

I'd trust the Amazon reviews, there. Price is great. I might have to get a pair.

These are legit! I have a red set on my grando that were on my mtb before. I love them.
I just bought another set that I just put on my girl's bike.

are wellgo mg-1s still a thing? I used to really like those on the bmx bike, but I also broke 3 sets from grinding. never did get the magnesium to burst into flames, though.
