it's also cool to have your brake levers at such an angle that you can't ride on the body without reaching out.

I think someone should tell him riding on the hoods isn't an aero position.

I hate to be the "it doesn't fit" guy, but that doesn't fit. They need to give that to somebody that is both shorter and has better taste than themselves.

Someone needs to turn of "invert colors" in photoshop.

so what, exactly, is wrong with that frame? you don't like the paint job? that's kinda reaching.

I thought he was criticizing the image quality... but I can't say I know enough about Photoshop to know what the "inverting colors" feature does.

independently I have to say that's a ridiculous frame to turn into a singlespeed...

Sun, 05/04/2008 - 15:46

Something is really whacky about that image. The bike looks almost photoshopped.

Invert colors means when the colors go all negative. Whites are black etc... something is really weird with it.

Also, do I see downtube knobs? Why is this beautiful frame getting converted?

hey, man, those 80's italian paint jobs contain far too much awesome for any puny camera to contain. i'm pretty much in agreement with everyone else about converting that bike to fixed. that would be a jackass move. especially considering he's already got those hot-ass shamals.

Sun, 05/04/2008 - 15:52
Anonymous (not verified)

not even fixed!!!

maybe the poster was just confused, but they said it would be their first singlespeed!!!

the pics at velospace do it way more justice, shaped tubing, etc...

I'm guessing whatever they used to compress the image is responsible for the craptastic quality.

Sun, 05/04/2008 - 15:53
jitensha!

either way, that bike needs gears. not necessarily c-rec, but at least chorus/croce d'aune. and i'm saying this as the current owner of a singlespeed road bike.

Sun, 05/04/2008 - 15:56
def

Agreed on gears, if he really wants a singlespeed tell him he doesn't have to shift. I'm a bit more concerned about this being his "first build." Also, did anyone else notice the wheels are listed as Shamal 650's? I wonder if he is planing to do many aero barspinz.

Sun, 05/04/2008 - 16:11

Too bad those bars are only aero from the front not laterally for super fast spinnz.

yeah, the 650s were what got me.

Sun, 05/04/2008 - 16:59

The frame looks like it's a made for a 650. The velospace picture from the back looks like there isn't enough space for a 700. That does look like a 700c fork though. Maybe it's some weird time trial thing that they were doing in the mid nineties. I think that only "parts that would sexy on this frame!" are the original ones, but if he does convert it, I hope to god he changes those fucking bars.

I'm pretty sure the Master Olympics are regular 700c bikes, but I could be wrong.

Sun, 05/04/2008 - 20:33
def

It's probably the angle that makes the rear look like it's the right size but if you look at a regular bike from about the height of the seat stay bridge it should be somewhere around the top of the rim. This guy has a rim with tires on it (granted they aren't inflated) and you can still see the bridge clearly. The difference in radius is about 2.5cm from 650c to 700c so from some angles it might look right. If you look at the side view the bridge is between the clover and the chrome arrowhead thing, looks like more than enough room for 700's. My money is on this guy being clueless. I cant wait until he mounts his campy delta brakes and is confused when they don't reach.

Sun, 05/04/2008 - 20:57

yeah, i see it now. those pictures are so shitty, i didn't realize the wheels had tires on.

heh... I'm sure that'd be nice for about 5 minutes... at least it has a front brake (and is on the small chainring); even with the cap on it the exposed seat post is a touch alarming.

I think there are bosses that a lever thing screws into that places it under the bars. Kind of like reverse TT levers.

I could be mistaken, but thats what it looks like from the side shot.
