Yeah that's a pretty boring spencer. I'd ride it and be content probably, but it's nothing special.

I don't need any more out of that cross-check other than a halfway competent owner who can fix the obvious issues... as parts selection goes it looks great to me.

Is that a 9-speed brifter set with a MTB derailleur or were the pull ratios still incompatible back then? I don't know my Shimano lineages well enough to know what's going on there

We call em shakes round these parts, fella. Using the b-word is likely to get you run out of town looking like a chicken. If the dangler is old enough, it may work with 8/9/10 speed shakes, but any dyna-sys dangler needs a cable pull adjustment.

Handlebars are a little derped, but that's a surprisingly inoffensive Soma build.

Wide bars on townie bikes are stupid.

If someone on here did it, I'd probably like it. Since it was done by someone I don't know, they're a fucking idiot.

To be fair, unless you are a tallbro the partial frame bags complicate water-bottle removal or force you to use underwhelming sideload cages.
I'm in the process of upgrading from the smaller Jandd triangular bags to one that extends the full length of the top tube and I'm already bummed that the DT bottle is going from easy access to frustrated yanking.

I am as small as smallbros come, and this isn't a problem even with my tiny-triangled Elephant.

I think my issues might stem from the Salsa water bottle cages that I'm using. They are great for keeping the bottles solid during bumpy singletrack but are designed such that they only allow the bottle to be removed in one vector.

I'm thinking about getting one of these frame bags that is a little larger than the Jannd I have now but might need different cages. The ST cage isn't bad but the DT cage would probably be a struggle while riding if the bag is stuffed to the gills.

it's only those and historical reenactment cages that have that problem

there's also dozens of common cage designs that are even more secure in bumpy shit

flip the levers to some internet choad, they're uncomfortable as fuck and don't even have return springs

the XT BL-T780 are the best long pull levers I know of, but seriously anything out of a co-op bin is better than Paul levers

i hate the levers too. they weren't designed for human hands. but i might use them to add to curb appeal because i see myself selling this spencer sooner than later.

it now has some mavic crossmax wheels and wtb rangers 2.8 rear and 3.0 front. the wheels are ugly.

trying to figure out magic gear because i cant figure out magic gear so now i have to or ill never forgive myself.

also has thomPson 120mm and black sheep mountain mustache (lol) bars that are def not going to work for this spencer. pretty sure they will only work for a build that requires no brakes. so pretty much the best bars ever.
ALSO has a fucky weld going on with the seat tube. maybe a sleeve, maybe a repair, cant tell, will take a picture of that later.
