All things Colorado thread brah

First up, this winter's festivities up on this end of the front range:

Bean Cycle is in downtown Fort Collins, Swing Station is north in Laporte.

I've been waiting for this thread for weeks. I am interested in some of these gravel routes. Ladybiek might be interested in some 50- mile routes....

Cinnamon Roller is usually sup'ed since it's the shortest loop and there's cinnamon rolls at the midpoint.

Cold Toes too, if lady likes to camp. That one is all paved and the daily mileage is the shortest.

All other routes include some or all gravel/dirt roads. WyColo has some trails, Pennock can have some snow postholing over the pass.

Prairie Fireball will either go out to the Pawnee, or up to Prairie Divide near Redfeather, unless the weather forces us to break the theme.

Also this one coming up soon:

NoCo Gravelo

40 & 70 mile gravel loops with camping before and/or after. Put on by the owners of the late Crankenstein.

She prefers to camp, but hasn't done it on a bicycle yet. Yet.

I think that the cinnamon roller looks good for her assuming that it's hardpacked dirt/gravel, she's not into shredding gnar quite yet (although she took out a rental krampus on singletrack and loved it.) Lots of time for me to convince her, also.

The dirt parts of the Roller are all hardpacked road base on well travelled roads. Nothing loose or technical. It's a popular road bike loop.

are there webpages for these events? Couldn't find anything on the friendspace except for last year's stuff

Not really.

Colin usually posts info the week before each ride on this facebroke page.

There's sometimes info at the YourGroupRide site but good luck with that.

There are unlinked maps for most of the routes hiding at coloradogravelroads, if you want to know a route I can dig up the link. Maybe I'll mirror this year's info there.

Thanks.

Here's the routes for the Cinnamon Roller and last year's Weld Waltz. The Roller stays the same every year. The Waltz might be slightly different.

Two Days of Cold Toes just goes up the Poudre canyon on 14 to Ansel Watrous campground.

I can't make it to the Roller this year, but plan to be on the other three.

Two things for May:

May 6: FoCo 102 - try to ride every trail in Fort Collins in one day. 5 loops totalling 102ish miles. The loops start and end at bars so you can bail out and start recovering asap.

May 20: Robidoux Quick and Dirty - ok this a 3 hour drive from Denver into western Nebraska but it's not closer to anywhere else anyway. 70 mile gravel grinder in the bluffs around Scottsbluff National Monument. Low key and super friendly Nebraska Nice hospitality.

I'm a little surprised that the other CO people aren't posting in this thread smiley.

Not going to make cinnamon roller, non-bike friend decided to come out that weekend. The Prairie Fireball looks interesting though, I do prefer overnight trips if I'm gonna drive a bit to go riding :)

I don't post that much on here but I do live in Denver. I just moved down here a couple months ago and have been looking for some rides like these. I came from Missoula and there was a ton of beer league racing, hard but fun group rides, and more casual groups of riders. Down here it seems like that sort of stuff is few and far between, like everyone just does their own thing. I would be stoked to get in on some of these rides.

There are a few group rides in Denver. We do one on Tuesday nights that leaves from Renegade brewing company, meet at 7pm.

There's also another tuesday night ride called Loops, they meet at Our Mutual Friend brewing at 7pm as well. They're a little faster because they're messbros.

Then summer thursdays is a ride put on by Yawp! Cyclery, it's the most consistent speed-wise but only runs every other week.

I only have a carbon skinny tired road bike and a FS mtb and nothing in between, so not really set up for any long days on dirt roads at the moment unfortunately.

I have a skinny tired road bike, and I'm dying to hit some of the canyons up by boulder this spring/summer. I'm not as fast as you by far, but I can ride at a moderate pace for many many miles. We should talk.

Considering doing the triple bypass this year.

Also get more bikes!

Right now all I have is my cross check, but I am building up a Lemond Zurich frame my brother gave me last year. I have been heading up to boulder to ride more and more because it actually gets me into the mountains and I cannot wait to have a fast bike again to hit it harder. Missoula was awful for actual road riding so I am really stoked to get back into that end of cycling now that I live down here.

What part of Denver do you live in? 32nd street out to Golden and up lookout is a great way to get innamountains, as well as taking the light rail to Chatfield park and heading up Deer Creek Canyon.

Cross-Check is suitable for both of those rides.

I live in congress park. I have ridden out towards the mountains a few times, and ridden out to golden and boulder from my place. Sometimes I just want to start climbing faster instead of doing 30+ miles of flat before hand, since my wife and I only have one car its not always available when I have days off. Ill have to check those out for sure! I haven't got into checking out where the light rail goes yet as I have pretty limited days off right now.

Light rail is a godsend. The C/D lines to Mineral station will take you right to Chatfield state park, you can get to many awesome mountain roads from there.

The W line will go to Golden, and you can get from where that train drops you off to the start of Lookout Mountain in 10 minutes.

I'd be down for this. These are the only type of road rides I really enjoy at this point. We also need to get out on fat bikes the next time there's good snow on the trails.

I just rode (slowly) all the way up sunshine canyon last weekend, so found it's do-able on snowpack and road bikes. Just not ideal for riding down, best to descend the pavement dpwn boulder canyon. Also do-able on the random hot weekends like this one coming up, so let me know if you ever have in mind to ride up this way. I don't mind going at the all-day endurance pace. I don't really want to hammer when it comes to 2 hour climbs.

I actually just sold my cross bike, but to a friend who hasn't paid me yet (i'm a pushover apparently). So I plan on replacing it at some point, just need to save a bit more. I actually have two other bikes (plus the other mtb i need to sell), but one's a track bike and the other is my basket bike (and only fits 23s under the fenders), so I am definitely short a road-ish bike that fits big tires. I'll replace it soon enough.

Sweet..... keep us in the loop, would love to do a sandwich / bagel ride up in the canyons. I just got my new work schedule and now have weekends off. Think I'm booked up for the next few weeks but once it gets closer to spring I bet we could all pull something together!

Jesus christ. I rode Green Mountain today because it was dry. Holy fuck, now I remember why it's been 5 years since I've been to that place. Nothing but the most Fred fucks, with absolutely no trail etiquette. Most of the people on foot were pretty good, but I legit yelled at a lady who's dog was around 50 feet in front of her, just sitting in the middle of the trail. She's just chatting away on her phone, carrying a fucking tote bag for some reason, not giving a shit about the number of people behind and in front of her, who are waiting for her to get her dog on a leash/off the trail, so they can go by.

Well jorts might be a little extreme considering it's going to be 35deg tonight, but if you show up in a kit you'll feel extra weird.

Most of the homies are still on tarck bikes, we ride in street clothes, and you might wanna bring some beer for the end spot.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/865266573548764/ <--- add yourself in here and I'll approve it. Might want to check in around 6pm to make sure the start spot doesn't get changed. There's a small chance that they might want to start at "Our Mutual Friend" instead of renegade.

Two Days of Cold Toes got a writeup. We have one more campout scheduled in two months. It will be probably be a longer ride out so it will lean a little more poopbarn and little less wagon train.

I'm hoping to make it to the poopbarn, it's on my calendar already. Ladybiek has been adjusting her soma for a week or two now with the new handlebars and seems to have a pretty decent fit. Once she's not sick anymore, we're going to start doing some longer gravel rides, hopefully she'll be able to make the campout!

I'll get back to you on that one after we get a shorter stem for her. I'm going to do some longer gravel rides maybe up Boulder way and see how she does before we commit / decide anything. I have a friend from Evergreen who might be interested in the overnight as well.

The penultimate Winter Ralleye, the Weld County Waltz, is this Sunday. 80 or so miles, ~70 on gravel and dirt roads. Meet at 7:30 at the Bean Cycle in downtown Fort Collins. Route is posted upthread, though this year's loop will end at Road 34 Bar.

Deer Creek tomorrow at noon, if you're interested. There's a group of 5 or 6 of us going.

Hope to get out on some rides, tho I'm too busy getting destroyed by school

just saw this. i'm out of town this weekend. still haven't actually made it down there..

I'm passing on oil well flats. There are too many rideable trails within 30 minutes to justify a 2.5 hour one-way trip there. Definitely riding both days this weekend, though. Eugene, let me know if you want to ride either day.

I'm visiting family for the next 9ish days back in CA. Bummed I'll be missing what looks like fantastic weather (and going to mudslide country)

Winter Ralleye Finaleye: Prairie Fireball Overnighter is next weekend. It looks like winter conditions will return so the original plan of camping up by Red Feather Lakes will be relocated if Prairie Divide gets a bunch of snow the day the before. If it snows a lot up there then we'll probably go to Pawnee Grasslands. If the snow doesn't materialize but there's a lot of rain and everything is muddy high and low, we'll ride the (paved) road up to Red Feather and just camp at Bellair Lake campground.
