bum pedestal thread.

gawd damnit, all of the shops in my area that are supposed to carry Fabric saddles don't and won't participate in the demo program. if I go ahead and get the flat and shallow at the same time, think i'll be able to return one? would assume clamp marks would make it not returnable.

if anyone is after a brown san marco regal in brown, I'll give it to tarcker for shipping. great shape, other than my cat getting few good knead marks in it...

FWIW we're probably getting a big fleet of WTB demos in soon. i know it's not specifically what you're after, but they have some good shapes and you're welcome to try some out.

Been riding an Ergon SMC-3 LARGE on a couple bikes. On an upright bike it feels pretty good. On a road/touring bike where you might be stretching out more, it's an ass hatchet. Very firm.

Planet Bike ARS feels pretty good on my hybrid basket bike. Actually have a pretty solid number of miles on that one.

I really like how a well-tensioned Selle Anatomica feels on all kinds of bikes but the rails bend on some of them and I feel like I'm always upping the tension.

i'm just going to keep riding an SLR or its cheaper cousin the SLS on every one of my bikes all the time. i guess it kinda hurts my tenderhole on my mtb on longer rides. maybe i should do something about that?

You'd recommend the Ergon SMC3 for an upright bike? I'm still using the beach cruiser saddle that came on my Edgerunner, which is a huge bummer. I tried sticking an Arione on it, but that was as hilariously awful as I'd expected. One mile ride to the grocery store sitting on it, one mile ride home standing up.

I put a brooks knockoff on my edgerunner. It's OK, the rails are almost long enough to make up for the too steep seat tube.

TC: I rode a not yet fully broken-in Berthoud Aravis saddle on the 250 mile, 5 day gravel/pavement tour that Yummy Gooey and I did last week with only the Swrve Cigarette shorts and the same pair of wool briefs and felt 100% comfortable wit no butt pain.
Either I have developed an ass of steel or I've finally cracked the secret of the perfect saddle/shorts/fit.

other things that may have helped improve butt comfort:
- meticulous butt maintenance with wet wipes
- supple 48mm tires

My current favorite saddle is Ergon's SMC4 (large). The SMC4 has softer padding than the C3, and they add gel inserts, too. Good for MTB use, but probably a little too smooshy for road riding.

To give a full recommendation I'd have to get back to you... What I could say now is that it really chapped my ass riding on my LHT and made every ride just a little painful, but when I swapped it to my more-upright plusbike today it definitely felt much better. I'd probably need to ride it another week or two to be really sure I guess.

Okay, cool, I'd love to know what you think about the Ergon after some regular riding. As an alternative Edgerunner saddle, I might also explore vegan alternatives to Brooks' wider saddles, though there seems to be a real quality gap between the real thing and the plasticky imitators. Same thing with vegan faux-leather shoes, actually. Mostly $20 Payless stuff (or wildly expensive boutique microfiber from Portugal).

I have one of their carbon-railed marathon saddles (SMR line) I've been using as a gravel/cx race saddle. More pressure than I'm used to with my noseless things on other bikes (well duh) but no numbness and has served me well on multi-surface rides.

technically yes

practically the the leather is a completely different shape and the plastic cantle faces rearward instead of being a steel scythe, so your sitbones are further back

Previously I was riding a Berthoud Aspin (tour). At that time I had my bars higher and it fit wonderfully.

you roll your pelvis forward for flat back right?
like not bending at lumbar but actually rolling your hips FWD and teabagging the saddle?

i do same thing ot lengthen my short spine and take weight off my busted crippled lower back. For some reason only other saddle that works is the san marco concor lite (old/retro) version, and probably only because I have super narrow hips (was like a 138mm in old specialized measurements, but nose was too thick)

they are cheap and abundantly available. it fixed my peen problems.

Yessir, hips go forward, weight goes on pubic rami, back stays straight, core (including multifidi) fire to hold things steady. Feels like a much more sustainable position for me.

I have always had junk numbness on flat saddles, then progressed to contoured models (first with the romin, then with a couple SMP models). Junk issues were gone but still had friction in spots, SMP worked well but cracked one so decided to move on. Used an Adamo attack for a while and felt pretty okay, but am currently on a Dash strike (one of the stock models) and am p happy with it thus far.

I don't know fuck all from saddles other than my ass loves my Regal, and I have like 4 other saddles my ass doesn't like. What's a saddle that fits similar to the regal that is a bit more modern looking? Might say fuck it and just buy another regal if I can't figure this out.

EDIT: apparently they made a modern version of the regal. Well that was easy

The Regalé isn't much like the Regal atmo. It's more in line with an Arione. If you like a the regal they still make them.

First ride to work on a Cambium C17 this morning. Coming from a Selle Anatomica, the saddle is much stiffer than I expected (I weighed in at 255 pounds this morning fwiw). At first I thought this would be uncomfortable, but within a couple blocks I was feeling it. For me, it feels stiff enough for me to feel like I'm on a solid platform but has just enough give to it to smooth out the ride. Also felt like I was getting less rubbing and better power transfer than I did with the SA. The legendary cambium grippiness is also appreciated as leather saddles do tend to have you sliding around a bit.

So overall first impressions are very good. The Selle Anatomica could be very comfortable when everything was set up correctly, but the way those saddles can stretch and bend made for near-daily adjustments. I feel like the Cambium will have less comfort than a SA at its most comfortable, but the Cambium will hopefully give me some consistency.

My 12 year old B17 seems to be giving up the ghost. The adjusting bolt thing has popped like half way out of the little hole thing at the nose and I can't get it back in no matter how hard I try. I'm thinking about getting one of those "carved" C17 saddles (not cuz vegan, just cuz I think they look cool).
I've never used a "carved" saddle, but I've loved my B17 forever so I'd probably like the C17 right?

So I am about to pull the trigger on a Cambium. I assume that the C15 is the go-to for anyone who is looking for a "racy" fit, something for a bike with some saddle-to-bar drop? Has anyone a opinion of the C17s (with the cutout). Or any kind of long-term opinions about the Cambium are welcome.

I have a C17 no cutout. I am fat. It took my butt maybe 50 miles to get used to the stiffness but now I appreciate the firm but compliant ride. Or maybe it broke in a little? But I dig it now, huge upgrade over the bendy Selle Anatomica I had been using.
