They seem super flimsy and they're so quiet compared to the Spurcycle and Crane bells. The spring on the striker looks like it will snap easily, and the overall design is terrible. They serve one purpose, and that's so you can say you legally have a bell on your bike. The bells included with almost every new complete bike in Australia work and sound better than the Knog bell.

Wait--they make you sell them with a bell on them too?
And I thought reflectors and pie plates were humiliating.

I think the knog fails the efficient directive.

Does having the rubber stuck in there allow you to tighten that bolt up more? To get my rock bros bell to ring properly I can't tighten that bolt down as tight as I would like which means the bell can spin on the bar with a little pressure.

Yes some sort of non-metal washer is required. Metal on metal will suppress the ring. I was going to start experimenting with different materials for that but the fucking head of the hammer fell off

I have a old tube I just cut up last night for something else. I can use a piece of that for my bells!

Tried that. It's too grippy and will start twisting up with the screw as you tighten down on it and it will break apart. At least IME

Maybe some sort of stiffer rubber would work like a piece of old tire. I think a leather washer would probably be perfect

If you don't have leather on hand you could try a wet innertube piece. Water will prolly stop it gripping too hard. Or oil, which could break down the rubber but who cares in that application.

Couldn't you just use a metal washer between the bolt and the tube? Or am I misunderstanding where the tube goes?

I think you are misunderstanding, we are discussing the single bolt, it pulls the band/internals into the body of the bell tightening the bell to the handlebar but it almost uses the bell itself as a washer so we are discussing placing a piece of material between the bolt head and body of the bell.

Looking for an image of the rubber piece I found this: https://cyclingtips.com/2016/08/a-tale-of-two-bells-spurcycle-vs-the-counterfeiters/

Also, not sure if you had the same problem but I found it hard to hold the rubber piece in place on the Rockbros version. Mine naturally wanted to squirm away from the clamping piece

The one on those spur bells look highly superior. The one that came on on the rockbros was awful and fell apart

The spring arm on my Rock Bros started to feel super shitty and wasn't giving a positive ring, so I bought a Dimension headset bell for my Elephant. It's nice to have a little real estate back on my stem (with my Swift box, that was the only place the Rock Bros fit).

A drop of lube on the rock bros spring arm has kept all 4 I have kicking around workin fine.

I tried that. Also, the rubber backing piece was starting to rot away, I suspect because the Elephant lived more or less entirely outside for nearly a year.
