I don't know how I managed to get four perfectly functional Rockbros bells, and all you guys killed yours.

My rockbros works but a) I haven't used it that much and b) the dinger spring is kinda weak so it's not as loud as it could be. I can see the spring failing in the future.

I've never not had a bell on my bike. I can't tell you how many times I have avoided running into hikers or runners because I dinged the bell coming around a blind corner at 20 mph.

i get super timid and super quietly tell people when i am coming up on them, then usually they don't hear me and get pissed, and i just give a friendly wave while calling them names in my head.

bell on the bike you use on MUPs makes total sense and i had one. i'm talking about trail mountain bikes. do most of your mtb trails have a lot of hikers? we also have no actual humans here for the most part.

The trails I ride are bi-directional and have a ton of blind corners.
Also hikers, trail runners, dogs, deer, people drinking beers, gay cruising, drug deals, gang activity and Polish guys going fishing.
So yes, there's a bell on my mountain bike.

I broke my rockbro while paying for the ferry the other day. The dinger got caught on my pants and broke off.

Grabbed it off the ground and it popped right back in. Works like new, which is just ok.

Broke mine after a couple weeks. Turned my bike upside down to do some quick maintenance and the dinger fell out. I found it on my bedroom floor a few days later and just threw the whole contraption apart.

I also find bells to be not as useful as I hope. I only use them to ding at friends and even then I find myself just whistling more often than not.

I ding at pedestrians a fair bit. Don't like shouting at people and bells get a more consistent "move aside" reaction anyaays.

I definitely prefer to not make myself aware to pedestrians. If they don't see me they won't react alarmingly to me. But that's based on how and where I ride. Probably a fair bit different than most people here.

this works best for ohio. if i say anything they are more likely to get startled and jump in the way

there's a definite % of pedestrians who have no idea what a bell means, and no idea how to react. I do find that the really loud bell I have on the xtracycle combined with the low speeds allows peds time to assess the situation and react appropriately. If I were riding faster I would be in the street, and the bell would be moot, and when I'm forced onto the MUP in PDX it's a high enough bike traffic area that the peds are well-trained (except the hoboes, fuck the hoboes).

No shit sherlock. I'm pretty sure we all do this... except when they block the whole sidewalk/bike path. Then you either slow down to their pace or make some noise to ask them to let you through. A dinger seems to be the best noisemaker. In at least some % of cases they move over without looking back or wondering what the source of the noise might be.

there are way more peds on the path and well just people in general in cinci than there were in dayton
but cinci when they pave a new section puts a center line down
which people generally respect.
the worst is old dudes and their wives riding 9 feet between each other.
