Not disappointed.
Resonance on Spur is better. Have Spur already, will probs get a Knockoffbro for other biek.

Done a displacement test to verify metal yet?

We need a side-by-side road test to investigate if the knockoff politely clears abreast stroller walkers from MUPs as effectively. Or summons nursing moms to the espresso bar.

Fuck that ripoff bell. I'm usually not too uptight about that sort of thing, but it's such a blatant rip, and the Spurcycle people put some genuine time and effort into the design of theirs it kills me to see it knocked off so comprehensively.

Im glad the knockoff sounds like shit (like most small bells I've tried). That vid helps, but if you haven't heard a Spur up close and in real life you're missing my favorite part. It sounds of musical instrument quality with a beautiful set of overtones and long sustain.

Meme away.

If someone on here did it, I'd probably like it. Since it was done by someone I don't know, they're a fucking idiot.

TBH I think they Both sound like shit. I have an aluminum Crane that sounds so much more pretty, but bike bells are supposed to get people's attention not sing them a fucking lullaby.

every alu bell I've ever heard has been a plink plink thing, Eric is on the money with the spurcycle's tone and sustain, I was amazed how well its steel dome could resonate compared to brass.

This. I'd be happy to buy a Spurcycle bell if it seemed like better value for money. The materials cost is fairly small, it just seems like there's a huge "designer tax" on it. That said, it kinda sucks that they're getting cloned so obviously.

So how much would you pay for the real deal? Maximum $35? $30? $20?

Edit: I'd pay $30 for a black spurcycle bell. Seems fair with a designer tax. I guess it goes to show that if your material cost is so low you're getting knocked off for $10 then you need to do more of the R in R&D of the market for your item.

i agree with $30

though i didn't say i wouldn't buy it for $49. it's a pretty great little dinger IRL. it just seems like a lot for a bell.

Seems like the rockbros bell has more of your traditional brass bell sound

The spurcycle bell is just fucking heavenly though with a long sustain and a sweet, clear tonal note plus overtones that are really hard to convey through an audio recording, plus as a recovering orchestral percussionist I will freely admit that shit gives me some deep nostalgia (sounds exactly like a crotale)

TC though: would not pay retail for spurcycle, only have it because it was a gift

i consider myself a bit of a bell connoisseur and i have to say i'm pretty disappointed with that bell comparison video. i'm sure my $600 japanese custom crafted direct mount bell outperforms but still, first, the bells were tested in drastically different areas of the room. that's horrible for resonance comparison and when i imaged the peaks i saw very different levels of latent audibility. second, the bells were on different handlebars which is clearly a huge indicator. imagine a large man playing a cello as compared to a small woman - naturally they're going to have different tonality. i'd like to see the same comparison done with the two bells on the same handlebar of the same bike in the same area. and also i think it's embarrassing that this was conducted in a basement because as you must know, the higher relative humidity affects intonation. if more bells are added to this test in the future, i'd expect that they're done in a controlled environment.
