I’ve done a few 650b conversions on Soma Buena Vista (and Smoothie ES) with the Tektro brakes. They are pretty underwhelming.

Obviously the solution is to replace the frame with a cross check.

Or get those VO brakes and report back.

Damnit.

I suppose I'll try the single 559 on the front and see what's up. I just feel like I'll be able to get it to work a hair better than the centerpull fuckery that she's on right now. It's drop bar with the tektro trp rrl whateverthefuck levers. I think I'm gonna leave the centerpull in the rear because on a mixte it looks fucking sweet, and it works fine back there.

I have yet to try with compressionless. That may help. The calipers flex enough to probably provide some modulation without regular housing.

Fuck both of those. Get that long reach sidepull. If that doesn't work then you obviously bought the wrong frame.

Ok, did dt make a nipple that was square on top? Is that different than squorx? I'm using the torx driver and not getting any purchase. I'm 99% sure that I understand what is happening, but I want to make sure that i'm not missing something here.

Looks like they did, as they're listed in a few places (https://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/dt-swiss-double-square-brass-spoke-nipples/aid:739563 https://www.niagaracycle.com/categories/dt-swiss-brass-oem-spoke-nipple-2-0-x-14mm-double-square-head-black) but not on the dt swiss site. Suppose these could be made by someone else and wrongly listed given the paucity of results.

DT Swiss Squorx is external torx on the top (pro tip, a torx 6 bolt disc rotor bolt can be used as the tool/socket), definitely different, looks nothing like it, and it's 6 point, not 8, so it's not like they're supposed to be somehow compatible.

There's also sapim double square though, uses a 2.3 3.2mm square tool, Park / DT Swiss both make tools for them.

DQ: should I buy these DT Swiss R 460 Tubeless Ready 700c Rims or these Alex Adventure 2 TRS Rim for the wheelset I'm gonna build to get my Shawver back on the road?
Also, does DT make the squorx nipples in brass? I can only seem to find them in alloy.

Thanks! DT's site seems as if it only lists some of their branded products, which is indeed confusing.
On further review, it appears that I, being a total bozo, forgot that I went with Sapim and not DT for the wheels I'm working on. The square head nipples are indeed Sapim, which explains why the DT torx driver doesn't work with them. Is it possible to give someone power of attorney for bike stuff?

Rusty: I liked the DT r460 rims, but haven't used the Alex Adventurer rims. I'm gigantic, and, while the 46mm deep carbon rims I'm riding now feel stiffer, the r460s didn't feel uncomfortably flexy.

DQ: anyone know where I can buy NOS rudy project shit? I want the old impactx photochromic lenses for my rudy rydon sunglasses but they went out of production while I was asleep at the wheel. My originals were lost last fall and the new impactx2 lenses are shit. I've found what looks like the correct lenses used on ebay but NOS would be better obviously. There has to be a couple of these things gathering dust in a warehouse somewhere. Willing to buy along with the frame to get my hands on the lenses I want.

The annoying thing is, a year or two ago I went "hey, what if this shit goes out of production? There's no other glasses I'd wear so I better stock up". So I bought a spare, but I bought it with the impactx2 lenses because I'm an idiot. I guess they looked ok in the store, but in sunlight they have a terrible bluish tint. By the time I realized the new lenses suck the old ones went out of stock.

Multi DQ:

I’m building up a wheelset for my lowtrailbro. I’m using Alfine front and Velocity Ailerons that I got for cheap. Do to the yolo nature of this bike, what’s a good cheap centrelock hub in 135 widthways? Sealed is preferable, but not mandatory. Again - shooting for cheap because I’m using bogus thrift store rims.

Maybe the buyer has to carry the box from the post office to their house and wants it to be really light for the awkward walk.
Neighbors would be so impressed with buyer's strength because they assume the box has a complete bike + packaging inside.
Little does the observer know, it's just a bare carbon fiber frameset with zero packaging and those bulging muscles under their shirt are only balled up socks.

I'm assuming dude got a few shipments with crazypants packaging and doesn't want to deal with disposing of it? Anyhow I found a frame box that's a pretty snug fit, with the top cap in the fork it touches the top, kinda flexed the box to pinch the jawn in there so it shouldn't slide around. Hope it doesn't get too intimate with other packages on the way. Exchanged a couple of emails making sure this is what he wanted, hopefully they'll be enough to cover my ass if dude's pulling something shady. I don't really have much in the frame so I won't really be out anything but time if shit goes wrong.

I guess. The question now is why they wanted a broken carbon frame so bad they had to order one from overseas.

Only way to get around US only shippers or exorbitant international shipping rates. Unless you can punk post it in someone's luggage. Even our national post service offers freight forwarding now.

I know Ruckus does a lot of post-mortem analysis on broken frames that people don't want anymore. I would guess it's a carbon repair or composites company on the other side of the pond.

Still some weird economics that would lead them to purchase a frame here rather than local. But economics is weird anyway, so who the hell knows.

But you're not in AU? Or NZ, which also has one IIRC.

I've used shipito before with good results (don't use the cheapest postal option for small stuff, it went to the Netherlands first, took forever), others have used myus. Both to Oz. I assume they ship anywhere FedEx, DHL etc deliver. Some sellers have twigged and blocked their addresses.

shipito in particular gets blocked as it is widely used by credit card scammers, and once the goods are in their warehouse they might as well be out of the country by the time they get around to responding. There are a ton of mom and pop forwarders, as well, and a quick googling for one near where you're ordering something or where there is a large non-US population (e.g. Florida, California) will help you find something.

When I sell stuff on eBay I always specify only shipping to US coz I don't want to fill out the customs paperwork and stuff. Funny that Brazil came up, I got a message with an offer for the frame shipped to Brazil I turned down.
