Specialized Renegade Control 29x1.8. Best cross tire or bestest cross tire?

Craws posted to tire chat.

When I had FTW build me an Endpoint monstercross proto (now to be dubbed the Sascraws on Sasquass depending on how the fonts look) I mounted up some 29x1.8 Specialized Renegade Control tires to two sets of wheels. First set I9 Trail Ultralights. Second set hand built jobbers to Reynolds XC carbon.
I have been running 1.8 Renegade Controls on the monstercross bike all summer on all the same rides I was riding Coffee Grinder on while using a variety of tubeless cross tires.
Conclusion: traditional craws tires are 100% a UCI handicap and the fact that this jibberjabber has dictated cross bike design is a travesty for the end user not exclusively doing UCI races.
These tires are appreciably faster over 100% of mixed terrain compared to every 32-35c cross jobber I have tried. Faster rolling than file treads, gripper than mudboggers. Faster over bumpy grass. Faster in turns. MUCH faster over deep gravel or anything else loose where a 33c tire sinks a bit. Even faster on pavement than all but the most minimal cross treads.
On a proper mtb tubeless with a good bead locking design (read NOT Stan's) tire burping has been 100% impossible to cause all the way down to pressures that result in smacking a rim going ham over big roots.
Biggest problem? Very few drop bar bikes have fast enough geometry to really benefit from these as cross tires.

How wide are those rims and what do the tires measure out to?

reynolds are 19mm inner
i9 are 21mm inner

Tires measure out to about 44 or 45 on the Reynolds rims.

Wait, did you run those on the Endpoint, too, or just the FTW? Still haven't tubelissed the Grinder, but maybe...

Only on FTW. Biggest tire I have cleared on the grinder so far are the Ritchey Shield 35

Would love to pick up a pair of these next spring for the Campeur, thanks for the review!
