It is an abomination. Entry-level-ish Trek 3700 or something hardtail aluminum 26er. OMM racks, aero bars, plastic tube on front rack for carrying 2-liter type bottles of water. Dude has toured all over on the thing (like through remote Africa, hence the water-carrying tube). Strong rider, great attitude, etc.

I think he also welded a bunch of custom rack brackets to replace factory pieces that have broken off over the years.

Don't forget the ancient Marathon XRs that have no grip at all but still weigh a kilo apiece, and the nonfunctional suspension fork with rusted steel stanchions.

I could coast past him easily, it took me miles of pleading to get him to draft me on the smooth shoulder on the paved miles instead of struggling a few bike lengths back in the middle of the chipseal. He also refused to mount fenders before that overnight ride to the coast through the mountains that got inches of forecasted rain (though he at least wore long sleeves / a jacket for once). The plastic-eating rocket launcher is partly because he filed off the seattube bottle bosses trying to get the wrong FD to work, took a bit to convince him that rivnuts really do exist.

Fat Rob drove on I-5 south and then rode state highways west to the coast instead of riding in the mountains. Also had his flip-phone and no maps so it was hard for me to describe a better route back to his car.

I rode a carbon road bike with 23s on hardscrabble dirt mountain passes in the sleet

What can I say, we are some obstinate motherfuckers.

I'd admit it. I don't get rad and ride off road often. The bike is ridden like an old man road bike most of the time. On my manic depressive solo rides, i prefer the 1x11 friction shift to my campy ergo on my road bike.

The bike has no name so you can call it buffo or fixiebrocx. The Thomson came with the bike and I could barely make it work, but it doesn't bother me.

How tarcky is this one?

Had a landshark before I bought the poprad as a beater. But the poprad rode better as a road bike than the landshark, so I sold it to a friend who needed a bike.

I'm in Long Beach CA. Small bikes for small man. Not many have tried 11sp friction so I tried it. It doesn't suck. Not terribly different from 9sp friction. No idea about chain life tho, the 42 ring put me in the first 4 cogs all the time.

The dude I bought the poprad from said it was custom painted. Haven't seen any other in that color. It's nice in the sun. I am pretty sure it was a 2002, steel 1" threadless fork but had a 1-1/8 headtube with reducer in it. The 01 had 1" everything and the 03 had aluminum forks.

I wouldn't have minded a landshark decaled yamaguchi!! The paint is lame but at least it's got the bacon sticker. That bike now has the painted to match fork on, and 6800 group.
