Forks have 80-100-120-140 travel. Why would one choose 80 over 140?

Mig you dont need a dropper though, get on the bike before you worry about that.
I am getting one this year, but rode my bike for two seasons before I got to where I really needed it.

This seems like the heir apparent to my CX--MTB thread so:
If planning for only one ring up front (SS or 1xSomething), is there an actual advantage to buying a triple crankset vs double?
Most likely SLX.

Triple will have 104 bcd chainrings and potentially better chain line in the middle position. Also, a triple will likely come with a 32 or 34 middle ring that will give you a chance to try that out as your only ring before you go buying one.

Resale on a double with lightly used rings might be slightly higher, though.

fork sez "maxle" and currently the hubs are 9mm qr, i can replace the axle with 15mm thru axle, so im wondering if i can use 15mm thru axle with maxle.

Maxle is rockshox's name for their version of a thru-axle. Yours is 15mm because I'm pretty sure you didn't buy an Argyle, Lyrik or Boxxer.

Also, holy shit you are typing just like Sol.

They stopped doing the Revs and Sektors in 20mm after 2011 or 2012, IIRC. Everything not specifically designed for gravity racing is now 15mm. Even the new Pike is 15mm only. Which is a shame, because shopbros used to be able to get a really great fork by buying a 20mm sektor and swapping in a nicer damper (since it's just the Revelation with a downgraded damper). I think you could get out for under $300.

Sol's name was changed to Matthew Trujillo in hopes that having to post under his real name would force him to post like a decent human being. Which didn't work.

Going from a QR to the 15mm through axle standard will be a good move for you. The rest of that was just chatter better suited for the mtb thread.

What else is bothering you Mig?

15 is better than 9. I'm on a couple qr forks and havent died yet.

20 is a good bit stiffer without much weight penalty, so the aches have stemmed from rockshox switching to 15 in an effort to stay current with fox/shimano marketing without offering much benefit weight wise.

Unless I've misread what size rocks and drops you're hitting, axle probably won't make a huge difference, but maxle will help resale eventually at the very least

Probably another 6-7 years at which time Fox or RS are gonna come out and offer an "oversize Through Axle system in 20mm for trail and cross country riders that offers significant gains in stiffness with trivial weight gains and no other downsides" and it becomes the new standard backed up with assloads of marketing like it's a new thing that didn't already exist before the manufacturers collectively went retarded. They can even market it like some sort of adaptation to the bigger wheel sizes "15mm was fine when everyone rode 26 inch tires, but now with 650B as the standard riders are asking for greater stiffness at the axle to deal with the increased lateral forces they're putting on these tires. That's why FOX came out with this cutting edge 20mm system blah blah blah".

If I were to ballpark a timeframe, anyhow.
