In my opinion the total shralping nature of a disc bike lends to Shimano over SRAM, except the Apex on bike one or Force on 3.
My opinion is that Ultegra is far superior to mid grade sram offerings.
Indeed, and you could use the CX-75 brakes with the matching cable pull on the Shimano option
If the TRP brakes have the same cable pull I'm gonna be pissed (sad). Fuck Shimano and its stupid making shit that works well and is reliable.
I'm breaking this out of the CBC thread to keep it simple.
More info to come...
I didn't check out the CBC thread yet so sorry if this is redundant. I might be better to clarify here anyway.
What sort of bike it this? Fenders, 35s and a front rack, but no rear rack, right? What's the geometry going to be like? Is this a bike that can double duty as a training bike and can be set of like a race bike? I'm trying to paint a picture in my head of the bike.
If someone on here did it, I'd probably like it. Since it was done by someone I don't know, they're a fucking idiot.
To recap for Snowmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnn
"endurance road" bike geo with clearance for 35c tires.
Fender and front rack mounts
Nice short chainstays and oversized tubing
dick braks
steel frame/fork fork designed for cross range a2c (396mm) to allow for possible upgrades down the road if a full carbon non tapered cross disc fork comes along
bigger sizes will get more oversized tubes... baby sizes will get less
technically just comes in black but thre will be tarck colorway, powdercoated coz wet paint is spensive
100% made in usa
fully tigged unicrown fork
One model for now... 3 more by then end of 2014

Velocity Synergy rims are less expensive, and very durable. Good option if you want to keep the cost down. You can even get them unmachined.
The 700c Synergy is at least gonna actually be 622 BSD, but really fuck that thing. Their Dyad is a lot better in the same category.

Ritchey used to sell forks out of the same mold for $500
It's really a susp-corrected 26" fork though, so ~415mm a-c
It's extremely unlikely that another model like that will appear, because the EU failure testing spec has gotten more demanding. You kinda need a tapered steerer to pass the test without the production costs being too high.
Which eurobros? More details?
lots of threads on weightweenies going back years, nobody's had a problem, and plenty of em appear to get real XC race use
if I was building a steel disc bike for normal trail, it'd be near the top of my list. Pretty much have to build the frame around it though, which may defeat the point of a straight steerer for you.

Or you can say foo on Velocity and get Archetypes instead. They're cheaper than the synergies(at least according to the Universal Cycles pricelist?) and only $3 more than Dyads.
Archetypes cheaper than Velocity? Damn, I don't have UC account. Sure I think the Archetypes are nicer. The hard ano finish all the way.
Read up on the other thread and more carefully here. Very awesome project. I have to figure out how to get the funds set aside. I'm already knee deep in other projects now. Don't care, I've been wanting a bike like this for a long time and it serves great purpose for me.
If someone on here did it, I'd probably like it. Since it was done by someone I don't know, they're a fucking idiot.
I'm looking at the consumer pricing there; the Synergies are $69, Archetypes (black; Universal doesn't list the hard ano version this week) are $64, and Dyads are $61. Shopbro pricing is, no doubt, fairly radically different.

Found the threads, thanks. At 415mm, I'm not sure it'll work for me.
...shift like jesus making one set of footprints in the sand in your time of need
Is it safe to say that this would ride very much like a colossal. gun shy after not loving last frame I bought without riding ... I am in the interested zone, but have not emailed yet .... would want all black. Flat black is best.
does it really make that much price difference to have one batch powdercoated a color other than black?
Yeah. If it's a matter of cost, can you just run the numbers with/without and let us know in an email and let us decide if it's worth it?
Maybe I'm alone in this, but this feels like a bike I'd ride the shit out of and never consider quick-flipping. If we're already getting a shopbro deal, then a 'not quite an awesome shopbro deal but still cheaper than getting it done ourselves' seems fair. I know I'd be OK with it.
I... I just want an all-yellow or magenta bike with Tarckbear on it.
Should have said it was just a cross check with different geometry. - Todd
Why you gotta do this now?
And, I too wonder why not a frameset--trying to get more than 2 tarckers to agree on a color, much less a whole build, sounds like herding cats.
Best of luck!

Not sure I understand. Why not?
Present fork is 395mm

Bros unless something has changed, I still see frame/fork option right thar on page 1.

Can we get frames only. Cuz I want Campagnolo
Hopefully the Tarck-specific option has some sparkle vs neon?

Tarck colorway....
So to keep things cheaper for now I am doing ALL frames in black. However Tarck version will have color decals and fork.
So... I have narrowed down the fork/decal color to magenta or high vis yellow. Sparkles are probable (in the black as well) but not 100% yet.
For those of you who have emailed me and are seriously interested which color do you want to see more?
DGAF.
If someone on here did it, I'd probably like it. Since it was done by someone I don't know, they're a fucking idiot.
Between those two, DGAF.
That said, can I pay extra for the whole bike to be a certain color? Anyone else with me on that?
Should have said it was just a cross check with different geometry. - Todd
Anything high vis. Sparkles are a plus but color must be blinding.
Is it safe to say that this would ride very much like a colossal. gun shy after not loving last frame I bought without riding ... I am in the interested zone, but have not emailed yet .... would want all black. Flat black is best.
A durable finish far more important. What a durable paint? Imron?
If someone on here did it, I'd probably like it. Since it was done by someone I don't know, they're a fucking idiot.
sold on both magenta and high-vis yellow.
by color decals, do you mean like tarck rainbow, or just matching whatever the fork color ends up being?
flat black or gloss black
i will paint splatter at my leisure if i end up buying it
flat black will make gloss splatter more appealing
"Folks want options!"
Gloss black is easy to clean and is black. And cheap to get done in a nice, strong coat. Let's be reasonable here.
fuck being reasonable, this is tarck
"Folks want options!"
Fuck not being able to use bike lust. Flat finishes look cool at first, but it's an asspain to keep them looking clean.
i'm against matte too
Edit: goddammit.
I want eye-bleeding Magenta or Yellow and I'm willing to get the frame raw (and the decals dropped in the box) and do it myself if necessary.
Should have said it was just a cross check with different geometry. - Todd
Yeah no matte, gloss black
Magenta decals leads to 3DV ano
High Vis decals leads to ano rainbow
I am into both of these things.
Also, should I expect an email back or not yet?

would we ever be able to decide on a color?
I'd be fine with any of the Tarck kit colors - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow.
I'd be fine picking it with a game of Rashambo.
Should have said it was just a cross check with different geometry. - Todd
The magenta, please.

Also, emailed.
Really didn't expect this to come together so quickly & I'm definitely not in bike-buying season right now. Guess I'll wait for the next batch.
