Had some fun yesterday putting on a race at our home velodrome, there was face painting ostensibly for the kids, but why let them have all the fun, so a few guys got ducks, ice cream cones, butterflies... and then some went and got corpse paint.

And I "raced" the crossshark and gave out high fives to every kid on the sidelines.

I had a good night racing the Bs race at the last pre-season race. 20 minute first heat went well. I was somewhere in the middle of the pack the whole time. Made passes through both sets of barriers each lap, lost spots on the long flat straight always (not a great SS course), felt good about my handling in the corners. I did a lot better about staying off my brakes and trusting my tires to do their job than I normally do. Came in 16th or so which put me into the semi finals.

Semis was a 1-lap dead sprint broken into two 10 man heats. I got the holeshot in my heat and hung on to the lead for about 4/5s of the lap. A couple of guys came around me on the long finishing straight, but i still made it to the finals. It was my first time ever leading a race. Felt good, man.

Sadly, I didn't leave much in the tank for the finals, started poorly and never made it back up to the front. Still psyched that I did as well as I did. I'm really looking forward to my first race on the 16th.

Going mountain biking on Labor Day, probably. And missing MFG kickoff cross for friends' wedding on the east coast.

The season is long. I doubt I'll get to December feeling like I didn't get enough racing in.

1percentruck's advice to start on one side or the other is something I use every single race. Most of the sketchiness at the start happens in the middle.

Don't worry too much about the stuttering. Getting off the bike cleanly is way more important than getting back on it cleanly.

I am a shitty bike handler, but I will say this. Don't be afraid to take the inside line. Yes, you have to scrub more speed to do it, and accelerating out when traction is iffy can be sketchy, but this is a great way to make a pass. Even if you derp it up it throws the other guy off his line.

Shit is so dry around here that I'm taking the chance this season. And I don't care if they feel like crap. Took me 30s to mount them for stretching and they went on straight the first time. Going to be so much easier to deal with than challenges.

Well first race of the season in the bag. 18/29, not good. Race was flat/bumpy but the run up was fun. Cross between Arlington/North Bend/Roslyn. Since I'm a little guy I often take the line under the branches that most normal people don't take and this time it got me. I took a branch to the eye during the second lap and couldn't really see for the next half lap (in fact my right eye is still somewhat blurry). I guess I need to start racing in glasses. The race within the race wasn't happening for me today but it was great to see people I haven't seen in a year.

Looking forward to next week!

The weekly cross practice starts tomorrow. kinda pumped for it. It's at a forgotten park that no one really uses besides when cross shit is going on so there's some good lines to ride even if there's not a marked course. Last year it was pretty rough but the city did some work so it should be a little smoother, but honestly, this is fucking cyclocross not road racing, so It's supposed to be rough and rowdy.

Apparently the dude who broke his neck at the local roadie loop ruined it for everyone and now some nob at the city has a hardon for denying cycling related events.

TC, I have no interest in racing or riding with my fast friends. I've been loosing fitness all summer and now I'm getting winded just walking with my wife. I just want to take a nap all the time.

Supposed to see this dude October 18th if the HR peeps figure out my insurance...

I sold my Kona and bought a CAADX. Still need to get it fitted and stuff, but it feels fun and zippy like my CAAD10. It's also lighter, doesn't have a triple, and has brake levers I can reasonably work.

Tonight: cross clinic with my coach and two other new cross girls. Yay!

I love my cannondale. And another fast girl on our team has a CAADX or probably SuperX and really loves the feel of it.
Finished up my Archetype wheels.

Still getting the chatter toned down. Never had good stopping with these pauls.

yaya! this is a great idea! You racing SS this weekend? Im gonna sign up today for Tacchino. I dont know what i looked at before that said reg. was closed. Probably last years bikereg.com link like a dumby.

Also, i did my first CX clinic last night. Caught the last 45 minutes of it that is. It was sweet! I learned a lot about CX... like how they dont use water bottles(wat?!), how its REALLY difficult after like 5 minutes(ha), how out of shape it makes me feel, mountain biking bike control skills probably help a ton, and how im not that bad at mounting/ dismounting( though i did eat shit into my rear tire practicing remounting one time, haha).
