I mean unless someone chose their online identity to be named after this man, but all the papers and articles said "Bucchere and Bucchere's lawyer" so I assume it is actually this guy.

I'm forgetting where I read this but he apparently went out and got himself the best damn defense attorney in SF. So yeah, it's probably the dude with the CEO's salary. If some social media tycoon that was riding like a jackass and killed someone gets off scot-free, it's really going to tick all of my boxes (indignant cyclist class rage, etc).

Yeah, there are a lot of older, more-money-than-brains dickheads that ride like complete assholes around here, especially now that cycling is so "hip."

Sounds a lot like me.

Seriously though, I hardly think he'll get off scot-free, but if any precedent was set with the other recent case, there'll be some penalty. Or maybe they make this guy an example?

Yup, beat me to it. Cycling jackassery comes in all shapes and sizes in SF (and probably most other urban places).

Sad that so many non-cyclists see it as proof of something larger than this one guy being a selfish, reckless POS. I don't hear about a driver killing someone while driving recklessly and make snap judgements about drivers as a whole. Frustrating that the same logic is so rarely applied to bikes.

you didn't happen to be riding in the city yesterday and get passed by a black ducati?
I saw someone wearing a canada jersey.

also I'd like to add, I've seen cars hitting each other a lot this week. Bad accident heading onto the 1, and two idiots hit each other on my street. Pedestrians regularly get hit as ppl blow through the stop sign, and yet the bicyclists are the assholes? I've seen cops blow the stop sign and almost hit people, too.

A coworker was telling me that the same day that this shit happened, a ped was killed by an SUV and another was killed by a bus. But those happen 50-100 times a year in SF, so NBD.

The owner of the car (and likely the guy who hit the cyclists) was arrested yesterday. http://www.berkeleyside.com/2012/04/27/hit-and-run-driver-who-struck-two-cyclists-arrested/

Quote:
Michael Patrick Medaglia, 43, of Oakland, was arrested at the Jack London Inn in Oakland late this afternoon after he attempted to shift blame for his crime by reporting that his vehicle had been stolen after Wednesday’s hit-and-run incident.

Medaglia was arrested for possession of heroin, felon in possession of ammunition, violation of probation, and felony hit-and-run, according to BPD. He was taken into custody without incident. Medaglia’s misdemeanor probation violation stems from an August 2010 case for a violation of PC 653(k), possession of a switchblade.

It never fails to amuse/further shake my faith in humanity that allycat videos are filled to the brim with clips of drivers who have to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting cyclists riding like jerkoffs. If it weren't for the driver's good reflexes, you'd have been hit by a car. How is that a thing to celebrate? Why does that make you cool in the slightest?

re: alleycats and brake-slamming drivers--i hate that shit too. i run hella reds and always have, and have plowed through traffic that by most objective, exterior measures i probably should not have. but my one rule of thumb has always been that if anyone has to hit their brakes to avoid hitting me, i've fucked up. i don't give a shit how much or even if anyone follows the law, just don't get in the way or create dangerous situations for yourself or others.
