Bad handlebar/lever combos is why I switched to risers. Mediocre all the time!

Wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the "Bike Parts that Exist But You Wish Didn't" but this thread was easier to find:

Saw an ad on Facebook for Back Up Bars which asked, "Bike enthusiasts! Do you love to bike?"

Being a bike enthusiast who also happens to love biking, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to click through.

this was a big deal a hundred years ago when everything sucked balls ---match avatar

Other than the bar angle, this bike is pretty much perfect. How many times has this bike been up here?

You're right, it just needs some Back Up Bars and it would be perfect.

i just realized my bars belonged in here...
but I like having the bars tilted up more for CX racing. more control in the hoods. more leverage on the brakes.

i had the "roadie" bar setup on the cx bike and ended up with a messed up back.

went through uci race pics and noticed they all had bars tilted up...

Yeah. It makes sense if you tend to live on the hoods, and a lot of really fast people do.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this influence the shape of hydro brifters.

looks like all of the tilted ones have the levers in the normal spot, with the whole bar assembly tilted up

I didn't have my camera, but today I saw a shitty road bike with the brake levers mounted upside down. I've never seen that particular bum bar setup before.

Machines were mice and men were lions once upon a time, but now that its the opposite it's twice upon a time.

I'm confused. I know that bikes with Brooks saddles need a certain saddle to bar drop (or lack thereof), but is this jackass? I mean, that steerer tube looks incredibly too long.

the most jackass thing in the picture is the headtube length surly uses for the CC.

and it's steel, so no structural issues with so much stack.

Other JA thing is the Shimano indexed bar end shifter + inline travel agent combo for shifting the 8-speed Nexus

Was a clever idea since it's double the cable pull, but the shift from 4 to 5 is slightly bigger than the others and the cables wiggle around on the travel agent. It's probably from the days before Jtek came out with perfect shifters though.

pretty much. it's still a "bad" handlebar setup. I got teased for having "antlers" on my bike once because of that. went to a CX race and threw out my back trying to set it up "pro"
now im back to antlers and couldn't be happier.

Man, I saw some hip kid riding down Valencia on Sunday on a fucking Cannondale Super-X with Red with the shifters all pointing to the sky like that, with clips and straps. I wanted to punch his bike.

Thank god bar manufacturers and/or shifter manufacturers actually decided to design their products to be compatible with one another.

i'm convinced that for the average sweet fixie rider in chicago the handlebar setup is a true form of self expression. all of those pictures are humdrum typical things you see everywhere. a guy a worked with quit his job to be a fair weather bike messenger and would switch his bar situation up about once week, he would mix and match grips and bars and stems, and almost everyone single setup looked just like one of those.
