It'll either be redundant for Blue Lug (they already have a Cross Check and Nitto racks) or embraced and given the finest repaint available.

I thought someone said Jan's special straddle cables, which optimistically are not calculated into the weight of his new brakes, were essential to their successful adjustment.

Saw this on Universal Cycles:

Soma El Nino 24 Rain Rim
Wet grit and road salts that get splashed on your rims and get caught in your brake pads can wear out your sidewalls in a season if you are a daily rider
Long lasting and extremely durable, an excellent choice for a touring, gravel, commuting
Hard anodized for durability and non-machined sidewalls for additional brake surface
Rim brake compatible
Eyelets for reinforcement and fatigue-resistance
Size: 700c
Width (internal/external): 19/24.4mm
Holes: 32h
ERD: 604.8mm
Weight: 580g.
Color: gray

from the dimensions it sounds like a shitty unmachined TB14 knockoff

hard ano is gonna wear right through

really need one of the ceramic coating options to address the wear problem at all

Sounds shitty, but since there's no TB14 option in 650b, it'll have to do until everyone can buy Adventure 2 rims in the enlightened sizeway.

There's really no point in owning a bike like this if you're afraid to break it.

Well, there's not much point period, but still...

There's a pretty big culture for it in Boston, and judging from instagram, up and down the major East Coast cities, especially NYC

I think we were talking about bikelife/wheelie kids here a few months ago. It's totally fucking rad and I love that these kids are making their own bike culture; all the shit that we're into is like ancient history or a distant foreign land from the perspective of teenagers actually having fun on bikes.

There are a few teenagers in my neighborhood who are doing that kinda thing. I want to talk to them, but I'm thinking that "heyyyy fellow kids, I have some bike tools and a pump over at my house, wanna come by?" sounds like total Stranger Danger, so I'm holding off. That having been said, holy hell they all do wheelies on flat tires, which is not a recipe for having a bike for a long time.

Idunno, it's just really neat to think that a few of these youth of the 21st century are going to wash up, ten-twenty years hence, in some dirt road brevet, probably wind up getting to know some people of our era like how I used to soak up stories from hardass old roadies who grew into serious cycling out of the 70's ten speed boom.
