What chainring did you buy? Even the Dimension 46t 110 chainrings have the pin there.

I guess it says it all in the description but who reads descriptions?

I read maybe 1/2, 3/4 of that interview and the only thing I see him talking about is bad relationships and business mistakes. On the other hand, here he is 40 years later - alive.

I think that people who want to make sure they order the right part read descriptions ;)

I'm finding a dearth of replacement sugino chainrings in anything other than single speed.

Not so matchy, but they have pins and shit.

If you have a silver crank and chainring situation, you should get the Shimano CX70 46t cyclocross chainring. It's Shimano "metallic grey", but it is silvery enough. It's intended to work with a 36-34t small ring, but I doubt you'll run into any real problems with a standard 16t difference, especially if you're using a CX70 FD.

I'm confused why the OEM one has chainring bolt head countersinks on the outer side? Does it also have them in the inside?

I just noticed that as well and was very confused. Will check when I get home but I am guessing they are countersunk on both sides.

Bookmarking the CX70 ring for next time.
Thanks for advice!

The last two 46t rings I've used (46/34 double because fuck it) have been Race Face Race 9-spd rings. Both have shifted better than the 48t sram ring I had on there before. Now I am looking at QBP and don't see the 110 BCD race ring on there anymore, but RF does list it on their site.

congrats you're the only person who hasn't given Squirrel worse ideas than he came in with

the new replacement is a standard cheapo 110/74 triple outer chainring

the Sugino OX cranks and these new clones don't have an outer at all, they use a 110 middle and a 74 granny

yes the cranks take standard old chainrings, but a pinned/ramped 46t with the chamfers on the inside was previously unheard of, and still unusual now

MSRP from Merry is now up to $119 http://store.somafab.com/suoxch.html — and their new knockoffs should be around $80

Apologies if you've heard this one before.

Back when Usenet was king (i.e. pre-web) I posted something about one of Trek's touring bikes. BG mis-read it and thought I was recommending one of Trek's inexpensive hybrid bikes with a high-ten fork. He called me (my # was listed in my sig file) and proceeded to ream me out for recommending a spencer with a high-ten fork for touring. I politely corrected him on the model number/name, and after 15-20 seconds of silence he replied, "oh."

I cargo spencer commute my kid to school before going home to switch to my faster commuting spencer to go about my day. Believe me, I'd love it if we kept cars out in the suburbs. I was poking fun at Buzzfeed's headline style, and perhaps pointing out the incongruity of a spencer policy article on a website that's half good current events reporting, half Kardashian gossip.

My good liberal, pro-gun-control friends get very upset when I bring this up, but them's the breaks. By death toll alone, cars are the bigger problem.

Sure, but the exposure to cars is much much higher than guns. 95% of American households own a car: 30% of American households own a gun. If deaths scaled linearly with ownership, there would be 100,000 per year if the rate of gun ownership was the same as vehicle ownership.

Do they really? Or are you just generalizing in order to make a point about "dumb, out of touch liberals"?
Or are you misinterpreting their anger at the fact that, by bringing that up, you're entirely missing the point of talking about the danger of guns?

In NZ, with have a national obsession with the "road-toll". We have already passed last years peak of 328 road deaths.
Some number crunching revealed roughly 9 gun deaths. FYI.
I think we are 4.5 million people.

I realize I was wrong to bring guns into it, but there's something extremely scary to me about 16-year-olds behind the wheels of two tons of steel that can go 120 miles/hour, and the deeply-engrained social programming that piloting one of these things is not only your ticket to freedom but absolutely essential to make daily life in America happen.
