This has been exactly what I've done, they're actually comfortable as fuck, which goes a long way. Some hot pink socks help, as does being known for wearing the most cheap beat to shit sneaks normally.

Ten Speed Hero does a good grab bag of last years models for cheap. I got some and was very happy with the selection.

If you're looking for some semi-vintage (Cinelli) bar tape in TAF colorways, this guy's 10-packs are a decent deal:

This DB is $200 more

with corp discount. Only real advantage seems like through axle front for easy Bluto swap.

$300 plus 10% more with code XMAS

i mean, at least of all the descriptors mentioned, it is actually pink and a single speed. but jfc.. that bike is not suitable for mountain biking or dirt jumping, or even remotely a bmx bike..

Amy, you need to get some Fox gear and one of these bikes and then you'll really know what dirt jumping is about.

that's what it sounds like, but these endcaps from jenson don't specify XD vs HG

http://www.jensonusa.com/Race-Face-Turbine-End-Cap/

probably cheap because they're not boost, and raceface's new vault hubs are apparently pretty fantastic

They'll definitely work for B-plussing a 29er with traditional 100/135 QR, though, right?

I'd hold out for a ≥30mm rim. Better tire profile, traction, cornering.

23 internal width would be better on a ditherer with 47s than with a 2.8

Green and Bronze Rabbit Hole Rims $65
https://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=55942

Honestly have no idea if there are better options now for 29+ and Pugs/offset friendly, but at one point had wanted to build a set for my Pugs and the rims were ~$140

in the last few years Surly has periodically dumped rims for free with a frameset purchase

so there's a bunch floating around at depressed prices
