The Cheap Internet Deals Thread

I figure that this warrants a topic, since there are occasionally good deals or interesting items on these websites to share.

I don't know if anyone is looking for a nice modern/vintageish lugged steel frame, but Nashbar has the Fuji Connoisseur on their website for $350. If you wait around a day, you can probably get a decent coupon for free shipping, or some percentage off.

This seems like a good deal for cross peeps. I take it this is the lever with the uncomfortable cable routing, but whatever.

Then again, these dudes are selling them for $50 with free shipping.

just a heads up...packages coming from england/over the atlantic are being scrutinized by customs/feds and no longer allowed on passenger flights due to terrorism concerns (yemeni jihad mail bombz). so they're being inspected and then shipped via cargo planes and boat instead. not every shipment will be slow, but a decent percentage will be. order from wiggle, pbk, etc. if waiting up to six weeks (in business days) is not a concern. I'm still waiting on something from the first week of december...which sucks cuz I thought it would take the usual 5-10 days.

it makes me sad that ordering from ribble is quite a bit cheaper then wholesale. i just ordered a group/wheels/tires for the shark from ribble, so hopefully it doesn't get caught in the customs trap.

I totally agree. I mean, I try to support my lbs as much as possible, but I got the tires for less than $40 each! I mean, it's at least a $75 tire. And PBK has gp4000 twinpacks for $77! Fuck paying almost double at a shop. And at the same time, my lbs/place I work at sometimes doesn't carry most of the stuff I want anyways. He's maybe making shipping off me, so I can just order it myself and not have to put up with waiting around and hearing excuses why my stuff isn't in after I ordered it 3 weeks ago. I miss the time when you could call up a distro company with the shop account # and make a personal order and give them your card #. Those were the days.

There's a serious problem in the US bike industry when wholesale for a GP4000 is $4 less than the retail price (with shipping, no taxes) from the UK.

I think a lot of the costs are added because of the shipping involved to get the items here. Getting the tires and whatever else is a train/plane + local shipping away within Europe. To get here, it's that same train, plus a boat, then a plane/train again, and finally UPS/FEDEX/etc to get to a shop. That's the most logical reason I can come up with.
Thing is, people want their handmade tires from Europe and if an American company came out making high-end tires, it would take them years to catch on, and they would probably still cost $100/pc.

It's not a very good one — shipping is a whole lot cheaper when it's sea freight.

The real reason a lot of the euro shit is priced high here is usually because there's a subsidiary or wholesaler here with an exclusive on the american distribution, and they have to make their own considerable margin for it to be worthwhile — there isn't the volume here to treat it like a commodity that gets a couple percent markup.

It's a struggle, but you cut out his tongue, and his last words are "atmo atmo Atmo ATMO ATMOOOOOGORIHGGHRSHGGRLMGGMMGMgrrglegurglegrr....."

PBK has a sale on some really useful tools I didn't have, or had worn out. In particular, one of these in both Campagnolo and Shimano. The teeth in my old Wrench Force one (which is Shimano only) are almost totally worn out. I also picked up the Mavic spoke key, since I only own a plastic one. Good stuff.

There's no Performance in my town, and Performance does not make a tool like the one I posted. I don't know of another one, since Trek folded up Wrench Force. I'm not totally consistant on this, because I have returned Craftsman tools before, but I generally don't like to use a tool for its entire useful life and then try to extract a free replacement from a merchant.
