Not really asploded here, but pretty crazy anyway.

Quote:
It happened at the base of Capitol Hill, which is actually a pretty steep hill. I was going along at a good clip, staying with traffic. The wire hooked onto the spoke and wrapped two times around the axle before I knew what was going on. Then it pulled tight and stopped me in 5-10 feet. I don't think you could design a faster way to ensnare a bike, except maybe a bear trap. Or an actual snare. Maybe a cargo net. Really thick foam? Okay, there are lots of ways.

Coat hanger took out my dad in the 80's. He was also taken out by a turtle at about 30mph on a midnight down hill.

When I read that I thought he was tragically killed by a coathanger. Then when I read about the turtle I stopped feeling bad about laughing.

omnium backs are more smooth and beefy on the spider, cant run a chainring on the inside and the crank arms arent flat, they curve in
props on managing to shatter that axle rusty

i didn't realize that the thread flowed over onto the next page, which contained the answer. also, i just saw single ring and beefiness and assumed omnium. aka: not looking very closely.

Did you get something large stuck in the brake pad? I bet Portland weather must just be a total rim wrecker.

Was riding through some baby heads, and the chain/derailleur were flopping around. Cage/lower pulley got stuck in the spokes, and pulled everything back. I really wish the (replaceable) drop-out would have broken, because then maybe the derailleur, spokes, and chain wouldn't all have been bent to hell and back...
