Bike Works, our local co-op, had their annual warehouse sale today. Didn't find most of what I was looking for, unsurprisingly, but did manage to walk away with some sweet Specialized body geometry mountain shoes for $3 that fit way better than the piece of shit Answers I've been using for years that are on their death bed.

Also ran into Blasdelf there with arms full of stuff.

My manager gave me a fork. Or, he gave it to a coworker, for whom the steerer was too short, so he gave it to me. It's a 2001 Rockshox Psylo, 125mm travel in the most hideous yellowy, piss-gold color. It's going to be a flexy-ass noodle, but I'm going to lower the travel to 80 or 100mm and throw it on the Marin and have a beater bike with a gold sus fork on it.

Fuck yeah.

$100 total for all of it at the BikeWorks sale.

Bike is a bone-stock 60cm 1989 Miyata 312 for my younger brother. Pretty damn good as a first road bike, especially for $80 — butted cromo tubing, sport-touring geometry, subtly TAF paintjob, full Shimano Exage group, and weighs under 25lbs.

Already swapped my own pedals onto it to ride it home, beyond that I think I'm just going to clean it, swap out the torn saddle, put wider tires + fenders on it, and replace the inner cables.

Also got some Continental tires including a gatorskin for $1 each, a shitty Vittoria Rally tubular for $1, niceish folding cross tires for $3 each, 20" chrome Wald fenders for my sidehack, fred-as-fuck SPD sandals, and TAF half-shorts for $3:

It's a struggle, but you cut out his tongue, and his last words are "atmo atmo Atmo ATMO ATMOOOOOGORIHGGHRSHGGRLMGGMMGMgrrglegurglegrr....."

Free CXP30/DA 7700 wheelset from a customer who put new wheels on. The rear rim is done for, with a completely concave braking surface, so I think I'll cut out the hubs and overhaul them to see what kind of condition these are really in.

they usually go for $60-75 (or more if you get some asshats bidding on them); ergo good score.

jeez. seems exactly the same as any generic rear rack, but with a single strut instead of double for fork crown use.

still... glad i got it. hopefully fits well on a 650b front end.

Scored one of these for a six pack last week:

I might put it on the Traffic, but I've got the nose of the saddle behind the BB right now with the Thomson on there, and I don't really see a need to put a heavier post on just because it's Dura Ace. I might do it and see if it looks better, but I'll probably flip it for some amount of profit.

I got one last year for $10.

Guy lived about 1 mile from my workplace and his listing had offered local pickup. But when I asked for his address he told me that there was a $20 fee to pick it up because we hadn't made an arrangement before the listing ended. He was clearly pissed off that nobody else had bid and he wasn't getting as much as he thought he would. So I took the $20 freight option stated in the listing (including his fuckin' handling fee), making him pack it up and go to the post office. What a dick.

When I won my custom triathlon frame (now built with risers and a basket) for $25 on eBay as the only bidder, I was worried that the local pick-up guy would be a jackass about it. Instead, I paid him the $25 in PayPal, and brought a sixpack to the meet-up spot, and he turned out to be a cool and chill dude.

But yeah, fuck that guy with the rack.

Went to Recycled Cycles to get a non-stubby 26.8 post and hit the jackpot in the pedal bin — two pairs of Frogs for $45 each, and a cosmetically mismatched pair of Time RXS for $30. It's too bad the frogs had a price sharpied on them, otherwise I probably could have checked out with a bro and gotten them for significantly less. Already had a pair of cleats for both.

Got some odd Specialized Flag road cranks for $15, 144bcd and 175mm, they'll make for some ballertowne super-low-q track cranks. They were labeled in sharpie as COLD FORGED AWESOMENESS smiley smiley smiley

Got a nice Turbomatic saddle too for like $12, mostly so I don't ruin a vintage brown suede Turbo I've got in the rain.
