Just kind of waking up to the Zo Bags hype, and I found this eBay post with a loooong story.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Zo-Bag-Custom-GRAVY-DOG-FULL-shoulder-sized-side-strap-extra-compartment-MINT-92/322850535245?hash=item4b2b64374d:g:pRsAAOSwO7hZ82l1

No idea who this guy is but he has a certain storytelling flair that I dig.

DQ: Is there a decent bag on the market that has the same minimalist styling and size like the Zo Bags without the premium price tag? I wouldn't mind a simple everyday bag like one of these.

Edit: Seagull still makes sling bags, that's what I'm looking for

Re-load, seagull, dank bags, pacdesigns, baileyworks, timbuk2, chrome, whatever random messenger in your town owns a sewing machine and makes half a dozen a year. I have a reload backpack and it's pretty sweet.

That dude is a nut. There's this ridiculously long facebook thread accompanying that post on a zo bag trade group. The dude basically is some 50 year old man who is still burnt up that his cool messenger scene got sold out by MTV and is now being sold out to Japan via $1000 zo bags. He's a total prick. The thread has a bunch of 50 year old men arguing about who sold out and was more legit. It's really god damn embarrassing. Makes me feel pretty good about my decision to sell out pretty soon.

Seagull bags are cool. Dude apparently didn't like what the company was doing or got overwhelmed (can't remember the particular story) so he shut it down and refocused on doing smaller work on what he wanted to sew. Luckily it looks like it worked out for him. I've always loved his work and he's one of the few bag makers I don't know personally. I'm really happy he's back making shit and hopefully happy doing it this time.

Unless you absolutely need a super-fancy limited run bag from a #artisanal #handmade bagmaker, just snag something from Timbuk2 or Banjo Brothers off of eBay/CL for like $50. They make simple looking bags. If you don't like something about it, heave it back up on a bargain basement resale site and try the next one.

If you know someone who makes bags and want to support their hobby, buy a bag from them.

I like the idea of using eBay product listings as a platform for personal essays.

I have a Timbuk2 Diaper bag that's fine, it's a timbuk2. If I somehow end up with fuck-you money I'm going to get a reload with a picture on it and a new backpack from them. They've been pretty good about warranty work, and my bag has been pretty durable.

Fuck a backpack. Fuck it fuck it fuck it.

This sexy thing gets a pass tho, because it's not some silly backpack

I do, sometimes, still rock a messbag only when I am riding on a tarck bike, or the few days that I commute on a road bike.

Yeah, not wearing a backpack on the bike. Sling bags are good for taking the kid to the museum or things like that. Gotta keep the flask hidden but handy.

No, ride a bike that carries your stuff. I have a backpack that I put right in the basket. Because fuck riding with a a backpack on your back. My other bike has a box in the front where I put my stuff. Because it’s just better.

Also., being an overheated fat guy my winter struggles are venting heat from my body. Maybe a series of tiny backpacks on my legs would keep them warmer.

I already get super sweaty on a bike, wearing a backpack just makes it that much more uncomfortable. And damp.

If memory serves, characters in Liefeld ensembles mostly stood up straight and grimaced or bounded about with their knees spread pretty wide. So, that.

I like backpacks over bike bags. I am almost always rolling out of bed 10 minutes late or I have 5 minutes to cross campus for my next meeting and a backpack keeps everything on my person. I do sweat like crazy in the summer, but I'm lucky in that I don't really produce BO so it doesn't matter for me.

I worked with Dan and Lori @ Seagull as a tester for a first gen Trail Buddy. I tested it out in Iceland two years ago and did a review (it was pretty great). I almost forgot that they were the same Seagull that was making all those custom mess bags back a few years ago (5?). Looks like they still make the same classic, minimalist bag they used to, so I'm gonna go with that. Maybe after Christmas, I just impulse-bought other bags and I still have to sell some old bags I don't use anymore. I need to stop buying so many bags.

I don't know why a good bag makes me so happy, but it does.

Multitrack is 700c hybrid, pretty sure none of them ever were made with Reynolds.

Given Russel's statement above (and he would know):

2 questions:
1) is he gonna sell it locally on craigslist/word of mouth? If so, whatever any old shitty non BSO hybrid goes for in your area. ($150-200)
2) if he's decided to try to sell it as a magical unicorn that only had one ever made, ebay, price it at +$100 whatever local sales would be, and then sell it on craigslist for $200 a month later.

Used bike sales sucks.

Sorry not multitrack, I meant single track. Definitely a 26 inch bike. Definitely true temper.

Also it’s a complete bike. Parts all in equally good shape.

So a 930/50/70/90. We get $200 - $300 for these at my non-profit in decent shape. If it's a 990 in Conch/Black colorway and 21" I'd be interested.

White with Red decals will be '89. Only year for the SingleTrack series using 1" headtubes. Made with TrueTemper AT Butted (all 900 series shared the same frame). I've got one and it rides pretty good, not super lightweight but far from being a SurlyTurd. It now spends it's life as a basketbike but in previous lives I've raced it as well as a 2 week self-contained tour on it. Vintage Trek Info
