i know i've posted this here before, but i was talking to a guy a while back who works at Riv. He said Grant doesn't ride all that much anymore, but rather he commutes to work on a scooter. I don't think it's a Razor, but it's a scooter like that, and it's kitted out with Brooks batrape and custom fenders with leather mudflaps.

I think that's even more Fred than a recumbent, frankly.

He finally figured out the highest stem to saddle drop ratio vehicle was actually a scooter.

Pretty certain I accidentally drive over like 5 recumbant riders a day.

Also, there is a dude with a custom "chopper" recumbant all fredded out cept with his chopper bars and fake chopper suspension.

The word "glorious" is subtable for the situation.

ULTIMATE BAR TO SADDLE DROP MUTHERFUCKERZ

EDIT: Fuck I got totally beat to the punch by Teh Octopuss-puss. Damnit.

Anyways, I think it's pretty wack that he's not riding bikes to work currently, but you can begrudge someone going off on a lark. And riding a kickbike or scooter or whatever you want to call it does not at all surprise. I don't know the dude but this seems totally within the sphere of "wacky shit Grant Peterson would get hella into."

Maybe this is old and I just hadn't seen it before, but the Carbonomas fork is even cooler than tooling around on a blinged out scooter. It's like the fred version of a gun buyback program.

Quote:
Our offer:

The fork sells for $200, and we won't have them 'till August 1. Call 800-345-3918 or email to pre-order. Or, if you send us your carbon fork (write your name on the steerer tube, address below, along with your contact info), we'll sell you its replacement for $115. We will permanently remove your fork from circulation. That is the point, after all. If you sell it on eBay, the problem is still out there.

Awwwe, I took this video during my bike trip down CA. I stayed with family outside Walnut Creek through Christmas, and had a great time visiting with the Rivendellians. All darlings.

Grant and Jay racing on kick bikes, it was it is. There will be a lugged Rivendell Kick Bike someday, Grant assured me.

I'm going to buy one as soon as they come out with a 1" version. Bullshit aside, it's a decent fork especially if you have a shitty carbon fork to trade in. I was at the shop recently and a grand total of *two* people had sent in forks.

Very much like a gun buyback program, this will only serve to get junk off the streets. If that makes Grant feel better about himself, then so be it.

cookie, you check out the finer details on that frame?
just curious what you thought. mine seems pretty clean outside of the seatstay cluster, which looks solid just a little sloppy, not like the bikes coming out wateford/toyo. one of the seat stay caps has a little divot in it, not sure what that's about.

i didn't look real close but what i saw looked nice...from about 8ft away.
the lugs and seatstay caps were nice looking.
i didn't look at the work at the fork tips or dropouts though...thats an area where i like to see nice work.

Old news. I was at Rivendell about a month ago to pick up some stuff. I spent some time talking to one of the shop dudes that owns the Calfee pictured. He showed me the box of returned carbon forks. There were 3. In any case, if you have a beater carbon fork, it's a good deal for a nice steel fork.

But doesn't the same logic that dictates fearing a crabon fork apply to the crabon frame, too?

But my point stands: either you irrationally fear carbon, or you don't, right? Steel fork on carbon frame says, to me anyways, "I'm not into her, but she's all I can ride for now, so... uh... yeah?"

Dude didn't fear carbon. He had a Calfee frame w/ no fork or a broken fork or something, he put the steel fork on it and now rides it around. Says it handles pretty well. Not only does he not have an irrational fear of carbon, he also doesn't have an irrational fear of steel (OMG STEEL! SO HEAVY!).
