WTB: some interesting hub in 32h 135qr rim brake way

Have a CODA (rebranded DT swiss) 4-bolt* 135mm, 32h. IIRC it's never been laced. $40 shipped in US.
*Dead Cannondale disc pattern. Ignore the 4 holes and it's a nice cheap DT hub.

Five-foot drops at speed on unstable terrain? Yep.

It's a cool hub. unused bolt holes bum me out aesthetically tho.

I've got one, with no holes anymore

it was pretty fun to turn between centers, with a lathe dog on the freehub body

Just think of what you could machine and mount onto those holes. Pinwheels, bells, sparkler holders. Don't think of them as "unused holes", think of them as opportunities!

I have a DT/Hugi branded hub, looks very similar to that CODA (but slightly different barrel shape, and rim brake only) but has a more polished (but not mirror) finish. Currently laced to a 26" Mavic X517 rim, hard anno with ceramic brake track.
Silver hub, silver spokes. Red logo "DT" with swoosh "HUGI" and smaller "swiss made" text.

I also have a silver older White Industries rear hub, but need to check the bearings in it.

I've got a Hügi Compact (135 x 32h-way) that either needs someone smarter than me to rebuild it, or a new set of star ratchets. Just cover the shipping.

what happens when you try to make it work? new ratchets are about the price of an old hub...

WTB:

650b MTB tires. 2.35 -2.6 in width. Converting my 29er to 650b and hoping to go to a bit wider tires in the process.

This is for XC type use on a hard tail.

Unless the BB is sky high right now, this will not go well with anything under 2.6. But maybe you really like pedal strike?

I appreciate the warning but I really think it will be fine.
Where/how I ride pedal strike usually isn't an issue.

And if it does, I can switch to shorter cranks and/or smaller ring/bash guard combo.

Furthermore! (just did some googling to be sure). My frame was originally specced with a 80mm travel fork, I'm running it with a 100mm. Couldn't find an actual geometry chart. I've also ridden it with 29x1.8 tires for a while and it was fine, and 29x1.8 is barely taller than 650b x 2.5.

What frame?
I'm on a Fisher Paragon that had an 80mm fork I switched for 120. 27.5 x 3.0 rubber, and BB still seems a touch low. but maybe it's riding flat pedals on rocky stuff? idk.

Zion 737 with a Fox F29.

I got a good deal on the wheels at bike swap, and they can go on the OffGridDitherer if this doesn't work out. But yeah it is a bit of an experiment which is partly why I'm looking at used tires.

oh, the Type Z. Yeah those are dopey. I have a pair and actually kinda love them for a bike where it's a part time commuter and part time thrasher but it still feels dopey.

Actually I've always had this idea about those. If you took a hacksaw and knocked off the outer portions you'd have a normal time atac. Haven't tried it but if you look at the Z it just has little extra bits of plastic to make it into a platform.

Also you should avoid the XC2s. There was a generation that was really good but they're hard to come by, the new XC2 generation is garbage, specifically the springs. Just go for the old plastic round-spring plastic-body ones (search for ATAC world championship) or go with xc4, xc6, or the mavic versions.

Lane is a total flake. He pretty much only sells in batches of 25+. I'll use his racks till the day I get off the bike but there's no doubt I'd run his business a bit differently.

Same for Travis from Freight. Literally the exact same. Don't buy directly, only buy from a shop.

I've got a medium synthe that is too small. The diameter is ok, but my forehead hits it on the front. Ends up giving me headaches and sits kinda high, but I worry the large will be far too big.
My head is around 59cm.

Ladybiek has expressed interest in replacing her old steel mixte road bike with a newer steel not-mixte road bike, not because of the mixte thing, but because of the dinosaur shifting and 27" wheels thing.

Anyone got a 54cm road bike up for sale with modern components? I'm not sure if she's ready to buy quite yet, but it's worth looking into.

edit: alternatively, she does like the frame quite a bit, should we just spend the same amount of money and grab a take-off sora group? Would need new wheels but those can be had pretty cheap.

I'm kind of locked into a piece of shit single-pivot rear brake because of the mixte design, but the front piece of shit single pivot brake seems to have a ton of reach left (pads are all the way at the top of the caliper) so I've got hope that a modern dual-pivot would reach.

I just want to get her into a decent 2x9, or 10 for a decent price. None of this 6 speed freewheel bullshit.
