I'll give it a maybe. I'm flat broke and I don't actually need anything right now. It's kind of a nice equilibrium.

I may come, I could use a kids bike for Callum and don't want to deal with Craigslist.
However I swore to myself that I'm not spending money on bike parts except chains/batrape/road tires this year.

I'll be there. I'm gonna help a work friend pick out a bike to replace the one that got stolen when her house was robbed this fall. Also hoping to get some odds and ends. But, I'm really trying to reign in the spending right now, so I'm gonna make a short list of things I could use and stick to it. Damnit!

I'll be there selling stuff with some other dudes. Well, trying to sell stuff, but likely doing a fair bit of purchasing also.

Hey folks.

I'm moving to the Madison/Central/Capital Hill area and should be arriving around March 27th. I'll be working downtown on 5th which is why I chose to live in that area. I'll probably only sign a 6 month lease as I'm trying to find areas outside the city to live where there is much more fresh gnar.

Anyone know what the commute from Issaquah is like to downtown? I've read it is a 35 minute bus ride but is that accurate? Supposed to be close to Duthie Hill which seems like a nice little place to huck.

I don't mind a commute to work as long as it's 30~ minutes. I am however putting a deposit on a spot off Madison and 23rd on Friday regardless until the woman locks down some work. Don't want to stray away from the city until we find out where her job is going to be.

Yeah. I definitely recommend getting a feel for the place first.

You'll at least be close to the I-5 Colonnade for gnar shredding practice sans variety and scenery.

Yeah, the Colonnade looks pretty rad.

Mind you, I'll be coming from DC, consistently ranked in the top 3 worst traffic cities in the U.S.

Any good non-city recommendations? If not east, then across the water and take a ferry?

Sorry. I can't help but facepalm every time I hear this kind of thing.

There are two longass floating bridges across Lake Washington. One just started charging a toll. Once you are on the bridge there is nowhere to go. People drive like ass, ride their brakes for no reason, etc... The lake is big enough that going around it is not really a viable option. There are HOV lanes the buses use, but bus commuting any real distance is meh.

JonM wrote:

I think this could work if riding or walking and you can deal with the expense and hassle of planning your life around a ferry schedule. The islands are pretty but it's just not cheap enough to make it worth the trouble. atmo.

It's a pretty place to live and gnar is never far away. There are definitely some pockets of bland suburbia but really no reason you'd *have* to live there.

You picked a good area to rent a place. Once the lady figures out the job situation and you have some time to settle in you'll figure it out.

No I understand, Seattle traffic, esp the 520 and the 90 bridges are nothing to shake a stick at. I just think that relative to DC/Northern VA traffic it will be a nice change. I was there two weeks ago and experienced some weekday traffic, on purpose, and while not great, did not compare.

I look forward to living in the Madison Park area and who knows, maybe I won't feel like I need to live in the gnar with so much gnar close by. From DC the closest technical ridges start at about an hour and fifteen minutes away, and that's really only two ridges. I have to drive 2+ hours to really open up my options.

R&E Cycles has an open house/beer/thingy on Saturday that is well worth a stop. Be sure to go downstairs and see all their framebuilding equipment and talk to some of the builders.

I won't be around until the afternoon but plan on swinging by.

I'll have the turquoise Mix-N-MAX hot rod. I'll deliver it either at the show or on the way home. Depending on available space in the group booth I may or may not have the SS townie, too. If anyone knows who is running the velodrome association booth I wouldn't mind hanging my track rig there, but that may be pushing my luck.

Are you not bringing a bike?

20/20 is good people, a friend is the head mechanic that does most of their buying, though I've never looked at the final price tags on their used bikes.

They did just start selling a new house-brand bike with a locally-made frameset that starts at $2200, design seems pretty close to the Rivendell experiment bike just without the tentacular stays.

I'm bringing my Trek Rumblefish but I will be looking to get a couple commuters, one for me and the lady. I'll check out what they have, went in there last time I was in town and they had some neat things going on. I think I know the new housebrand you're talking about. There was only one new bike in the place when I went in and it was a custom job that belonged to the owner I think, was raw/silver and super awesome looking.
