I bet they work great but man they're fugly!

They do work great.

Not sure why that one can't have normal chainring bolts though.

That is one ugly freakin' crankset. How do you change the chainrings, or are you supposed to just buy a new crank when they wear out? I'm sure Shimano wouldn't mind.

you can tell that thing is stiff just by looking at it. the "crank arm" runs all the way from the pedal to the opposite side of the spider. if you know what i mean...

They are super fancy (and super light and stiff, and ultra expensive) hollow chainrings, with special bolts; access is on the back. Most of the new shimano cranks take normal chainrings and look slightly less Gigeresque as a result.

Awww... just looked at new DA equipped madone to see bolts on back side of cranks. Up 'til now I thought they were held on by teh magic. Thanks for killing my dreams, mander.

Yay, more proprietary bullshit from Shimano. 790g for crankset & integrated bottom bracket, whoop-de-doo. You save maybe 100g (3.5oz, insignificant even on a 15lb bike) and you're stuck buying super expensive chainrings. Teh radness.

The next generation of Di2 is gonna be wireless and boltless. Everything's gonna happen electromagnetically, which is amazing because neither aluminum nor carbon are actually magnetic.

It'll be the metallic weights they have to drop into the seat tube to get the bike back up to UCI weight. Duh.

Even those are gonna be made out of carbon fiber to cut down on the weight.

I guess if you insist on making the bars that stupidly short, anything will take up space. Those sharp corners have danger written all over them. Gouging out an eye or tearing your scrotum in a minor crash is probably a small price to pay for having a giant square stem.
