true confessions (but mostly stealth braggin')

I haven't ridden a tarck bike in about 10 months.
The bike I have been riding for the last week has a flat bar, a triple, and a pie plate. I sorta like it.
Been riding this bike because I destroyed the valve on the front tube on my usual commuter with a shitty pump and am too lazy to fix it coz the bike is totally filthy.

I hardly ever/never ride my track bike, and haven't since the season ended in August. My Cross-Check with panniers and BMX platforms is just such a great get-up-and-go bike that I see no reason to ride anything else.

These. They were in the pull-off bin pile at my old shop, so I snagged them.

I didn't ride for two whole weeks while I was road tripping down California way.
Longest I've gone without riding in at least five years.
Most driving I've ever done in my life.
Now I'm sick as hell and it's all I can muster to just do my commute let alone do any 'real' riding.
I swear it was the inactivity of driving that got me sick.

I bought an "urban bike" the big buzz from REI, it has flat bars, disc brakes, is heavy, and I like it. I do wish it had drops, but I am too cheap to spend the money to make this happen. I ride it 95% of the time track bike remaining 5%. (DISCLAIMER: I have not study actual percentages) Percentages likely to change once I get a proper road bike.

I haven't ridden a tarck bike at all since last winter when mine got stolen. Also, the Allez has been hiding in the basement. I've not put more than 200 miles on it. Also, haven't hit the trails much recently or really ridden my road bike very much. I've only ridden 4-5k miles this year.

I prefer riding my trainer than riding in winter weather.

I don't like talking on forums about bikes (hence why I stay in OT most of the time)

I enjoy the feel of risers.

I really want to stick it in Selena Gomez.

OT annoys the shit out of me.

The 'humor' on vsalon confounds me. As much as I respect some of those guys and am nearly universally jealous of their bikes, I just don't get them. Glee? really?! This is as good an example as any of what I am talking about.

I wish I rode my bikes more.

I am in the ugly transition area between hipster and roadie, and by not technically qualifying for either at the moment, I have realized I am firmly a fred.

I always get a little apprehensive before I hop on my biek. Partly coz I'm so accident prone and don't want another 'free ride' in the ambulance.
The good news is that if I get into a position where the ambulance does want to stop by and give me a visit... my next ride is FREE!!! :-) :-/

I hit a parked car riding drunk, stumbled back onto the bike to try to get away from what I thought was a cop car with its lights flashing behind me, crashed a second time and didn't manage to get back on for a third before the paramedics from the ambulance chasing me could run out and grab my shoulders.

I had a pretty good laugh inside the ambulance. They brought my bike in and dropped me off a few blocks down. I walked home with scrapes all over and no glasses for my blind-as-fuck eyes, but I could tell from the silhouettes that I was being stared at by every passerby.

If you're a mildly competent rider, and can unclip and reclip without incident, then there's really little or no reason to track stand. It's just a waste of energy.

^ I promise you can do it. It's really not hard.

I will trackstand on my bikes (road or fixed) for a little bit, but if I'm waiting for the whole light the foot goes down. That's the difference between bike handling skills and looking like a jerk atmo

I have ridden a bike on about 4 occasions since the end of August. I have access to an old ass too small for me low end KHS mtb with cantis, but it has a flat and I'm too lazy to fix it. It really kinda sucks.

I have a deep and abiding love for my Cross-Check and suspect it and the Xtracycle are the only bikes I should own.

Despite this, can haz moar???

EDIT for relevance to comments ITT:

- Road tarckbike today. Top tube too short. Want to replace with Steamloller coz i++;
- Trackstand like a motherfucker. Why not? More fun on geared bikes coz harder
- Want to replace LeMond roadbiek with Surly Pacer coz irrational fear of crabon fork, plus i++;

I ride my bikes everyday but not nearly as much as I would like.

Haven't done any real rides since the middle of summer.

Never convinced my bikes are set up correctly. Nor am I ever convinced my fit is correct.

Love riding my track bike.

Love riding my jackass hybrid freewheel polo bike.

I wrecked a beautiful Nitto Randonneur handlebar this week because I failed to notice that the metal plate wasn't threaded through the bolt on my brake lever when I was tightening it down. The bolt went through the bar, and I cried like a babby.

I ride a bike that has terrible handling because of a fork with the wrong rake, but I'd rather wobble all over at low speeds than buy another fork right now.

I've only pulled the single speeds out of storage once in the last 3 or 4 months, and that was to get serial numbers for a new insurance policy.

I rarely ride anything at all anymore, but that's mostly because I don't have time during the week.

if you're doing it wrong. even trackstanding on a road bike (or fwss) is just a matter of balancing after a minute, no more effort than plain ol' standing. sometimes on uneven road it's harder.

and personally, i do it all the time because i usually think it's pretty easy and next to no energy spent, and if a gap opens in the traffic, i can pounce on it.

  1. I trackstand quite a lot, but that's because I will blow a light if there's a gap in traffic
  2. Sometimes I fuckup the trackstand and do the slow circle thing
  3. I have a triple on my road bike
