GT love

Got so much love for GTs lately.
Check it:
http://cgi.ebay.com/1990-GT-Tachyon-Completely-Original-No-Reserve-650B_W0QQitemZ220395660179QQcmdZViewItemQQptZRoad_Bikes?hash=item220395660179&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A570|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

Quote:
1990 GT Tachyon. One of the infamous "700D" crossover bikes GT made.
This is a cool bike. Why is it so cool? Besides the fact that it's basically a drop-bar mountain bike, it's also compatbile with 650B wheels. GT's proprietary-design 700D wheel size didn't catch on, and in 1993 they started using 700C wheels and dropped the 700D wheel size from their lineup. The E.R.D. of 700D wheels is 587mm. The E.R.D. of 650B wheels is 584mm. It's such a small difference that you can built up a set of 650B wheels for this bike and they will line up perfectly with the brakes and have no clearance problems, even with tires like Pacenti Neo-Motos. For more info on GT Tachyons, and photos of some with 650B wheels, go here: http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=416402

so rad.

You are missing the part where it has none of the advantages of brifters (can't shift properly in the hoods at any position it seems).

wow you're right, that seems like the worst place to have those then.

pretty much. i think Shimano was the first to make these with the Motion u-brakes. now they're pretty much only found on bmx bikes. Odyssey made a version of dual pivot road calipers for bmx in the late 80s/early 90s under the Pitbull name but those were phased out pretty fast once 990s took over for freestyle. I think canti v-brakes didn't really catch on until the mid 90s.

A quick glance at this new Nike Dunk high colorway sends an immediate ‘Tiffany’ jolt to your brain. Something about the nike dunk sb of color blocking and material usage just oozes with elements of the fan favorite. nike dunk shoes Retro/Metallic Silver-Black sneakers put the Retro hue on plain display via the toe, paneling and stitching in the same way that Tiffany Blue was used. There are a lot of fashion shoes on my store, nike dunk 2010 shoes not only nice ,but also confotbale, give everyone different feeling.Nike dunk mid shoes of patent leather on the heel and lace plates form a great overall contrast also.

not to toot my own horn or anything...older dudes lose their shit over my bike when they see me out on the trails. the zaskar model was extremely well made, and has a "cult like" following. mine is full xtr, sid comp fork, etc. this bike was actually ridden by a team rider for a season, so this exact color was never actually a production color...so a one of a kind (this is from what i've been told, and i can't find this exact color/build anywhere online).

i don't really need it either, going to be kind of silly to commute on, but now i have to sign up for some more cross races.

oh awzm.

fyi guys, that's a fillet brazed 853 frame...not some shitty GTB or Al welded ugly ass mountain bike :dramacloud:

i'd be interested in what the serial number is.
the longmont shop was the custom shop for GT, all the frames built there were steel. the Ti and Al frames were built in california somewhere.
the builder of that frame could've been Paul Chamberlain with assistance from Jason Hamburgh and Bruce Lagerquist...but there's no telling really.
Nobilette built my frame in his shop, your frame has many of the same fittings like the henry james frok tips and the seat extension collar...but nobilette only built a few road frames in his shop and built for a year in the longmont shop...all road frames.

yamaguchi didn't build any GT frames.

tiemeyer was builder for some those gt frames too.
the road frames were kinda crazy geometry...

So.... are any NEW GTs any good? MTB or Cross?

I've always had a love for GT. My first bike was a GT Jr Interceptor that I raced for several years as a youngin'. Now I have a GTB. I wouldn't mind adding something off-roady GT to my stable, but never sure if any of the new stuff is worth a crap.

I've got a similar frame I've been waiting a while to build up. 853, Tiemeyer-built, etc. Built for journalist Michael Gamstetter, and Gamstetter is the serial number,

Despite what you guys have read, every bike in this thread was built by Yamaguchi. I saw it on Prolly's blog so I know that it's true.

No, Yamaguchi built the forks. That's why they are indestructible and you can crash them and only ruin the frame.
