That red Schwinn is fucking great. How wide are those bars? Also, is that bag one of those balleur basket bags?

Pretty sure those bags are military surplus (hence why you only see them in camo). Can't remember which specific bag tho, and I'm having trouble finding it as any bag search for mil surplus brings up a zillion things.

I really really don’t like camo either if there was a way to change the color without compromising waterproofness I’d be all over it.
Is there?

Is it a fad? The only people I can think of that like camo are hunter/first amendmenters or like, noise musicians. Both groups of people who by and large have been fad-averse their whole lives.

I mean like multicam bike bags are kind of trendy I guess...

camo definitely goes in and out of popularity for usage on clothing. it had a come back, but i feel like its just starting to be back on its way out. was all the rage in hipster road cycling kit for a bit.

It's definitely a fad around my parts. I remember, when as kids, my friends and I would compete to find the rarest camo patterns from the armed forces around the world. Stupid, I know. But now I see nothing but messengers trying to out walmart each other and driving up the prices at surplus stores. Much ado about nothing on my end I guess though.

Can absolutely confirm that camo is hip in the crusty messenger scene. Also cannot deny being part of that scene though to be fair I've been wearing camo since I grew up in WV so ya know, street cred?

I've alluded to this bike a few times over the years, but here it is, finally finished. The frame is a smashed-up Trek 5200 that was repaired, Campagnolo components come from ferg (thanks!), the crankset was given to me, wheels were warranty items with broken rims which I rebuilt, etc. (you get the idea). All told I have about $400 into the bike. Excuse the terrible photos, my phone's camera is fucked.

I haven't had a road bike in a long while, and this one is fun. It weighs 16.5.

I also bought a matchy Salsa color that I haven't bothered to put on yet. It's the exact same shade at the Origin8 headset, so it's on point.

New hotrod commuter. I've always wanted a sweet big shiny aluminum triple-triangle. It's a super fun go-anywhere kind of bike.

The frame is very dull from age, and the fork I recently stripped and rough sanded. Ideally I would polish both, but I think if I could get them both to the same level of "satin" by sanding that would be fine.

Needs fender flaps including a drivetrain guard flap on the front of the back fender (what are we calling that again?).
Needs a good under-rack mount for a battery light.
I have a plan for a bridge to mount to the old U-brake bosses+fender mount+rear blinky mount.

Not sure:
Keep the gold bars or go all black?
Black cranks? ( I have some 94bcd RF turbines that would make a sweet double setup).
Swap 9 speed X9 drivetrain for 9 speed XO for bonus bling?
Black fender struts?
Add some color via sweet anno bottle cages/post clamp/grip locks/pedals/?

See "I went for a ride today" for more pics.

Things rad. Is that an Ouzo Comp or Pro?

I just checked Bikepedia, is that frame from around 2002? It reminds me a lot of the turn of the milennium era when carbon was still kind of exotic, and any new carbon road frame would get compared to either a C40 or a Calfee. So funny to think that the bikes of that era are practically classics now.
