I'd love to ride uphill for like a half an hour.

Yep, me too.
I need to move back to Santa Cruz, or somewhere else in the Bay Area. I miss living 5-10 miles from awesome climbs.

This was my first big climb on a road bike. I've been afraid of this particular climb and anticipating that I might do it in a few months which pretty much guaranteed that I had to do it as soon as possible. I suppose I should do that sort of thing more often. I basically live at the foot of about a dozen really good climbs. If I get to the point where I can make it over that peak on a regular basis, there's always Mt. Diablo:

http://www.inl.org/bicycle/diablo.html

I imagine I'll tackle that soon. In other news, I put the FSA compact front mech on the girl bike with the 38/48 rings. It shifts quite a bit better than the old Shimano 600 front mech with no trimming required. Also put some kool-stop salmons on the road bike the other day. They really don't seem to stop any better than the stock Shimano pads, though they do work better in wet condx.

Went on the first considerable ride since my bike has been rebuilt, the weather finally wasn't shit and I had a straight rear wheel. Rode for about 3 hours and did at least 20 miles, if not more. I need to get a computer. Might seem like I'm hella slow, but I was with a friend, and we made several stops. I was grinning ear-to-ear the whole time.

Riding bikes is fun!
I rode with my friend tonight who has a Huffy.
It's a horrible, retched thing which she lovingly cares for.
Anyway, I tried to fix her front mech but the thumb shifter is shot and was a POS when it was new so she's stuck riding the middle ring.
It was a slow ride.

Went on a ride and met up with stormy (see Tarck Jersey thread,) and then I went and rode some more. About 30 miles total, but I took the last 20 slow after busting ass to meet up 'cuz I was late.

I finished my generator light wheelset at Bike Station Edinburgh. I had them up to 110 kgf when the guy there told me it was a bad idea and that they should be down at 90 because MA2s can't really handle higher tension. They're backed off to 98 or so and now I'm nervous about tacoing, but whatever---maybe i will back them off a bit more later. The MA2s are a little bit big and it is a real bitch getting the tires mounted. I broke a tire lever, exploded a tube and punctured another before figuring out how to do it properly. On my final attempt I figured out how to get the tire on with no levers at all, by just cramming the bead in really deep as i worked my way around. That's going to come in handy when I actually get a flat somewhere. I'd forgotten how to do that since my beads are so loose on the wheelset I've been using for the last couple years.

So I've needed a new rear rack for awhile now since my MEC Blackburn knockoff won't sit level--it really looks like shit. At BSE thy had one with a flourescent pink powdercoat. The guy said I could have it for free since anyone with the balls to put it on their bike deserved a free rack. So I did, and it looks awesome. Having a level rack is so much easier on the eyes and the pink is working great for me.

I installed my light, a B+M Cyo, using a fork leg mount intended for a bottle generator and a paint protector made out of a slice of my exploded inner tube. The mount worked out ok. Then I went and rode around a bit in the dark. The light is bright as hell and on my brief ride I didn't notice the drag at all with the light on. Two ten year old scottish kids said they liked my rack.

it can actually. but you can't choose what color it does. i got lucky this time. actually when i sat it fit the wheel, half the wheel was in the flap, the other half was hangin out of the bag and the straps were barely long enough to keep it all together.

that boys and girls was this week's episode of the mellow dramatic adventures of the cptn.

Mine was dirt cheap and looks and fits awesome.
Plus it was dirt cheap so I won't feel too bad when it eventually gets broken or stolen.

The clearances on my Kilo are SO tight.

Any tire larger than 23 and it hits the frame as well as the fork itself.

I found it at a recycler for 5 bucks.

Oh man, cranks are polished and they look NUTS - Pictures soon.

Also, that Campy fork can apparently be polished to a nice shine? It's weird. There seems to be some sort of coating on it, so it's soaking in some oven cleaner for a few minutes. After that, I'm gonna sand it, 400, 600 and 1200. I'll post pictures after.
